Perhaps Tim Tebow should consider an interesting alternative. (USAT Sports Images)

Now that the New York Jets have benched Mark Sanchez, passed Tim Tebow by, and decided to go with second-year, seventh-round quarterback Greg McElroy as their short-term answer at the position, one must wonder what Tebow's future might be as an NFL passer. Under offensive coordinator Mike McCoy in Denver in 2011, Tebow was the beneficiary of a structure that worked -- Denver's coaching staff brilliantly welded the option concepts Tebow learned at Florida with just enough of an NFL passing tree to make it work.

When the New York Jets traded for Tebow in March, the marriage was doomed from the start -- head coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano insisted that they had plans for Tebow, but they clearly didn't. Now, according to more than one report, Tebow feels that the Jets misled him -- perhaps their only intention was to use him as a publicity stunt -- and if McElroy starts the last two games of the 2012 season, Tebow very well could ask for a trade or his outright release.

sand-robert.pngParents who fail to pay court-ordered child support for the care of their children put an unnecessary strain on the custodial parent and the children, as well as on agencies that are tasked with enforcing these matters. Although most child support cases fall under State jurisdiction, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) plays an important role in aggressively pursuing parents who fail to pay court-ordered child support.

FORTUNE -- Mark Zuckerberg donated Facebook shares worth $500 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with donors to allocate funds according to their interests. The gift is the largest ever received by the foundation, which finances projects locally and around the world, and Zuckerberg said he planned to focus his giving in health and education.

Zuckerberg announced the gift in a post on Facebook, where he noted that he and his wife Priscilla Chan had previously signed the Giving Pledge, an effort led by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates to encourage billionaires to donate most of their wealth to philanthropic causes. In 2010, Zuckerberg pledged to donate $100 million in Facebook (FB) shares to an effort to improve public education in Newark, New Jersey.

Washington (CNN) -- As the nation sent up a collective wail of grief over the 26 people slaughtered in a Newtown, Connecticut, school last week, the nation's leading gun rights lobby remained silent.

Until now.

The National Rifle Association, with roughly 4.3 million members, deactivated its Facebook page, had stopped tweeting on its Twitter account and had been issuing a "no comment" to any media outlet, including CNN, seeking a response.

But late Tuesday, the group broke that silence with a statement:

"The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters -- and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting. The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again," the group said. It plans to hold "a major news conference" on Friday.

As he dispatched a fresh batch of rookies to help keep New Haven’s streets safe, Mayor John DeStefano called for the national banning of semi-automatic weapons and large capacity gun clips—or else “the unimaginable will become more commonplace.”

He issued the policy recommendation and the jeremiad prophecy Monday evening just before administering the solemn oath to 28 newly minted New Haven officers and four others from Hamden, Redding, and Ridgefield who finished the regimen at the city’s police academy.

NEWTOWN, Conn. — An undisclosed threat forced district officials to keep an elementary school here closed Tuesday, four days after one of the most brutal mass murders in U.S. history took place at another local school.

Tuesday marked the first day of classes for district students since 20-year-old Adam Lanza's attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School left 20 students and six adults dead. Sandy Hook will remain closed indefinitely, and its students will resume classes at a school in a nearby town.

Students at Head O'Meadow Elementary School also were told to stay home Tuesday because of the threat, though no details were released.

Bushmaster .223 caliber rifle

The Dick's Sporting Goods chain said Tuesday that it is suspending sales of some rifles nationwide because of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

Dick's also said it's removing all guns from display at its store closest to Newtown, Conn., where the shootings place.

Earlier Tuesday, Wall Street private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management said it will sell its stake in firearms maker Freedom Group, which makes one of the guns used in Friday's mass shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children.

A statement on Dick's corporate website expresses sympathy for the victims' families. It says sales of "modern sporting rifles" will be suspended during "this time of national mourning."

PHOTO: On Dec. 21, a group of gamers plans to hold an online shooter cease fire.

Don't get Antwand Pearman wrong. He doesn't think video games are to blame for tragedies like the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. But he said he does think gamers have a place in mourning of the 20 children and 7 adults who were killed.

Pearman, who is the CEO and Founder of GamerFitNation, is organizing an online cease fire for this coming Friday, Dec. 21. He wants all gamers to put down the controllers and stop firing virtual bullets to honor those who were killed by real bullets last Friday.

WORK OUT WITH ROSA ACOSTA

The Hip Bridge Exercise

The hip bridge exercise isolates and strengthen the gluteus (butt) muscles and hamstrings (back of the upper leg). This, along with the single leg bridge exercise, are good core strengtheners that target both the abs and the low back muscles. The bridge exercise is considered a basic rehab exercise to improve core and spinal stabilization.

Hold the position pictured above for 15-60 seconds while maintaining control. If you do the single leg bridge as well, be sure to do both sides!

To increase the difficulty and intensity of this movement, alternate lifting up on your toes so heel come off the ground and then reverse it with the toes off the ground and your weight on your heels.

Newtown resident Paige Kousidis and kids Yanni and Angella at vigil on the Green.

Bearing white candles sheltered against the breeze, hundreds of New Haveners sent their light and prayers across the Green Saturday night north and west to Newtown in a support for the families devastated by Friday’s massacre, including one family in their midst.

The vigil was organized by Interfaith Cooperative Ministries. The group’s president, John Gage, initiated the proceedings with 28 peals of mourning that sounded from the bell tower of his United Church on the Green.
