NORWALK, CT — Dynamic entrepreneur, veteran publicist, journalist, cultural storyteller, and founder of Chit Chat Communications / Chit Chat Atlanta Tours, Carla Morrison, will return to her home state of Connecticut as the keynote speaker for the Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s highly anticipated “Pearls of Promise Scholarship Soiree,” Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 3 p.m. at the Norwalk Inn.

Tickets for the elegant scholarship affair are currently available through Eventbrite – Pearls of Promise Scholarship Soiree.

A native of New Haven who has called Atlanta home for the past 31 years, Morrison’s journey from ambitious young journalist to respected serial entrepreneur and cultural curator has impacted communities throughout the South and beyond.

“I am ecstatic that my home chapter invited me to pour into our 2026 scholarship recipients as well as address the Fairfield County community,” stated Morrison. “To come back home and inspire the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers is truly an honor.”

For more than three decades, Morrison has amplified the voices and missions of Black-owned businesses, educational institutions, elected officials, nonprofits, faith leaders, social justice initiatives, and grassroots movements through her company, Chit Chat Communications.

Throughout her career, Morrison has worked alongside and promoted initiatives connected to influential leaders and iconic figures including Ambassador Andrew Young, Jesse Jackson, Hosea Williams, as well as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis,  individuals whose stories she now helps preserve and share through immersive historical and cultural tourism experiences.

Morrison has also spent years supporting community engagement campaigns, youth empowerment initiatives, educational outreach efforts, political campaigns, Black business advocacy, and public awareness projects designed to uplift underserved communities. Her work has consistently centered storytelling, cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and authentic community connection.

Her newest and fastest-growing venture, Chit Chat Atlanta Tours, has emerged as a unique tourism experience showcasing the rich cultural, historical, culinary, and social legacy of Atlanta and the South. Through curated experiences such as Black history tours, Civil Rights experiences, restaurant tours, and cultural immersion activations, Morrison continues to bridge history, storytelling, tourism, and community engagement.

“In addition to all the work I do, I am also a cultural tour experience curator,” Morrison explained. “Shaping stories and sharing our history and culture with the masses in such a personal way is truly my purpose.”

Her growing tourism platform includes experiences throughout Atlanta, GA; Montgomery, AL and other culturally rich Southern destinations. Morrison also recently announced plans to curate a Heritage Tour on Martha's Vineyard August 12–13, 2026, continuing her mission of connecting people to Black history, legacy, culture, and community.

Alexandria Givan, Scholarship Committee Chair and 2nd Anti-Basileus of the Alpha Alpha Rho Zeta Chapter, believes Morrison’s story and impact align perfectly with the purpose of the scholarship celebration.

“Soror Morrison’s journey as an entrepreneur, leader, and woman of purpose is both inspiring and impactful,” said Givan. “We know that hearing her story, her perseverance, and experiences in business and life will encourage and motivate our scholarship recipients and guests in a powerful way.”

"Health & Wealth: A Better Me, A Better You, A Better Us"

Unity in Truth. Power in Purpose. No Power Trippin'.

November 15th | Dixwell Q House, 197 Dixwell Ave

I hope this open letter finds you well. I'm writing from our Men's Conference Committee to invite you to work with us on an important community project.

What We're Doing

We're putting together a Men's Health and Wellness Conference for our whole community - from middle schoolers to seniors. This conference will create safe spaces to talk about men's health and personal growth in ways that don't usually happen.

Why This Matters

We want to teach our community how to better take care of ourselves and be better men. When we help men grow and get healthier, it helps everyone - our families and our whole community get stronger too.

How We'll Set It Up

We're planning three different types of sessions so everyone feels comfortable:

  • Men-only sessions for topics that work best when it's just guys talking together
  • Mixed sessions for everyone to learn together
  • Women-only sessions for women who want to talk about supporting the men in their lives

What We Need Help With

People to Run Interactive Workshops

We need people who can get everyone involved, no matter their age. We want:

  • Hands-on activities
  • Skill-building workshops
  • Discussion groups where people can support each other
  • Fun learning activities

Speakers and Experts

We need people who know about topics like:

  • Mental health and dealing with emotions
  • Physical health and eating right
  • Building good relationships and talking better
  • Being a good parent or mentor
  • Handling work and life changes
  • Staying away from drugs and alcohol
  • Managing money
  • Being involved in the community

Sponsors

We're looking for local businesses and groups who care about men's health. You can help by:

  • Giving money to support the conference
  • Donating materials or services
  • Providing health and wellness resources

Why This Is Important

Too often, when people talk about men's health, they only focus on working out or making money. But we're missing the bigger picture - like mental health, how to handle feelings, building good relationships, and being responsible community members. Our conference wants to cover all of this.

What's Next

If you want to partner with us as a sponsor, speaker, or workshop leader, let's talk. We want to make this conference something everyone can attend and that really makes a difference.

Please contact me at ctmentalk@gmail.com to talk about working together.

For those who want to speak or run workshops, please fill out our presenter form at: https://forms.gle/NzPnXHQ1DhFFsYbW6

Want to join our planning committee? Sign up here: https://forms.gle/5pdk2hA3Lw4xXKMx7

Please note: The presenter application form closes on September 11th, and all applicants will hear back by October 15th.

We're also happy to share more details about what we're planning and what we need.

Thank you for thinking about joining us in this important work. Together, we can make real change and help build stronger, healthier men and families.

Best regards,

[Bud Mench]

A curator, promoter, singer, author, guitarist, motivational speaker, and actress, she has dedicated herself to nurturing local talent. For nearly seven years, she has hosted "Speak N Eat," an open mic event that has become a cornerstone of the local arts scene.

Growing up in a household with seven siblings, Malay often felt overlooked and sought creative outlets to express her emotions. She discovered solace in writing, pouring her feelings into words, and embraced all forms of creative arts, including acting. This early passion laid the foundation for her diverse artistic career.

Malay is also a published author with eight books distributed globally, reaching readers in over 167 countries. Her future aspirations revolve around inspiring others while continuing her journey of personal growth, striving to set a powerful example for her 14-year-old son.

In recognition of her contributions, Malay has been honored with multiple citations for her work in the communities of Springfield, MA, and Hartford, CT. She was named one of the 100 Women of Color and was further celebrated with the creation of "Nbs Malay Day" on September 8, 2023. She has been passionately pursuing her dreams since the age of seven and continues to work toward achieving greatness.

Guiding her journey is her favorite quote: "You are what you eat." To Malay, this means that you are what you believe—if you believe you’re greatness, that’s what you will become. If you believe you’re a failure, that’s what you’re telling your mind to be.the Best,

Leader of Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of New Haven Chosen to Succeed Will Ginsberg on Nov. 2

New Haven, Conn. (Sept. 17, 2024) – The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has named Dr. Karen DuBois-Walton as the next president and chief executive officer of the region’s community endowment and largest grant maker to local nonprofits. DuBois-Walton, most recently the president Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of New Haven, succeeds Will Ginsberg, who is stepping down after 24 years, on Nov. 2.

“I am thrilled to be taking on this leadership role at The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and for the opportunity to work with the team and in this community with so many committed volunteers and donors to build a stronger, more connected and more equitable Greater New Haven Region," DuBois-Walton said. "My vision for the future is one where we work together to create a more equitable and inclusive Greater New Haven — a region where every resident in all 20 towns has the chance to thrive, regardless of their background or zip code. This is the work I have committed to in my personal and professional career and it is what I am most excited to continue at The Foundation.  This work requires bold and collaborative solutions and my work is known for that."

Dr. DuBois-Walton brings two decades of leadership experience in government and public sectors. For the past 16 years, she has been president of Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of the City of New Haven (HANH), which serves more than 6,000 families and 14,000 individuals and includes the Glendower Group, LLC (the development affiliate of HANH) and 360 Management Group, Inc. (the property management affiliate). Leading the $800 million umbrella organization, she has spearheaded initiatives to address systemic inequities in housing and community development, education and economic access and opportunity

“Karen is an extraordinary leader of high integrity. She has a longstanding commitment to Greater New Haven and possesses the experience and vision needed for bringing together all stakeholders to create a more equitable and inclusive community.” said The Foundation Board Chair Marcella Nunez-Smith. “As we welcome Karen, we also extend our immense gratitude to Will for his leadership and overseeing the incredible growth of The Foundation during his tenure.”

The search process for a new president and CEO began following Ginsberg’s announcement in the fall of 2023 that he would retire in November 2024. He has served at The Foundation’s helm since 2000.

The Community Foundation Board of Directors chose Dr. DuBois-Walton following a rigorous national search conducted by a committee of current and former board members in partnership with Koya Partners, a search firm that specializes in placing CEOs in mission-driven roles.

“Karen has the unique combination of leadership ability, experience and deep connection to and passion for the Greater New Haven community that put her at the top of a very talented candidate pool,” said Fernando Muñiz, chair of the search committee and vice chair of The Foundation’s Board of Directors. “I thank my fellow committee members for their time, expertise and wisdom in completing this important work and we all look forward to The Foundation’s next chapter with Karen as our new leader.”

In addition to Muñiz, other search committee members included Nunez-Smith, current Board members Greg Pepe and Valarie Shultz Wilson, and former Board Chair Khalilah Brown-Dean.

“Karen is a great member of our community and a longtime inspirational community leader. She is a perfect fit for The Community Foundation because she knows our community, she understands our community and she loves our community. The Foundation’s Board could not have made a better choice,” said Ginsberg.

Dr. DuBois-Walton holds advanced degrees in clinical psychology and is the immediate past chair of the CT State Board of Education. She previously served as chief of staff and chief administrative officer for Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. in New Haven.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. DuBois-Walton is actively engaged in community building, advocacy and civic leadership. She serves as chair of the Board of the Melville Charitable Trust, overseeing a $130 M asset base and directing program and mission-related investments toward addressing the root causes of the crisis of homelessness. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Yale University, and master’s degree and Ph.D. from Boston University. She resides in New Haven with her family.

Last night, I had a chance to speak with Dixwell QHouse Board of Directors Chair, Alderwoman Jeanette Morrison, who is also the Co-Chair of the #QHouse Centennial Celebration, happening, Friday, September 27th. Alder Morrison shared her vision and laid out the entire plan; #ElmCity we are in for an incredible and unforgettable experience; Taking you through 100 years of the #QHouse serving this great community.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the Dixwell #QHouse. This is a staple in my hometown City of New Haven, CT., that was developed for and by members of the black #community, 100 years ago. (I'm  sure you heard of Constance Baker Motley. Yep, QHouse raised her). This community institution kept us safe, provided us with enriching programs and more. Over the course of 100 years the QHouse has transformed growing with each new facility. Our new state of the art facility has the entire #family in mind... It's a place for our elderly, adults and youth, with programs for all. www.DixwellQHouse.org

The gymnasium will be transformed into an amazing place taking you back in time to that suave hip Jazz era; Heavy hors d'oeuvres, desserts and cocktails 🍸 will be served. Music, dancing and honoring four distinguished community members who have made the difference in this 100 year journey.
