You've heard mention of the Armory community garden during several past management team meetings and you are invited to a special day at the garden tomorrow, Saturday June 4th from 12 - 2 pm.

We will be having an abbreviated garden workday where we do some planting, watering and weeding, and we will also have a presentation from Yale School of Architecture professor Elihu Rubin and several of his students (who are also all Armory gardeners) on our beloved Goffe Street Armory which serves as a beautiful backdrop to the garden AND we'll be having a cooking demo from the one and only Farmer D!

The workday will run from 12 - 12:30 pm, the Armory presentation from 12:30 - 1 pm, and the cooking demo from 1 - 2 pm. Please feel free to share among your networks as we learn more about our historic armory and efforts to save it and enjoy some delicious vegan food as well.

The garden is located at 97 County Street (one-way side) across the street from Goffe Street Park.

See the flyer below for more info and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow...

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Following the sixth homicide of 2021 and multiple violent acts of the weekend, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker and New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes released statements ahead of a press conference to be held Monday morning.

Mayor Elicker released the following statement:

Over the weekend we experienced multiple violent acts in our community, including those involving a New Haven Public Schools teacher, a New Haven Public Schools administrator, and a graduate student at Yale. I am deeply saddened that we lost Yale School of Environment student Kevin Jiang last night to gun violence. Kevin would have celebrated his 27th birthday next week.

To those who continue to perpetrate these crimes: you undermine the safety of our residents and yourselves. You continue to promote fear for our safety in our everyday lives. We, as a community, will not stand for this and we will be relentless in efforts to provide justice for all of the victims, their families and loved ones. Addressing and eradicating gun violence takes serious action both in the short-term and the long-term—and the City of New Haven is committed to that. If you have any information pertaining to any ongoing investigations call the NHPD at (203) 946-6304.

Chief Reyes is asking for the public’s help in providing information in these cases. Chief Reyes added, “Our department is working around the clock to solve these most recent acts of violence. We will bring all of our resources to bear to ensure the safety of our city.”

The Mayor, New Haven Police Department and members of the Yale Police Department will be hosting a press conference on violent crime tomorrow on the steps of the New Haven Police Department, 1 Union Avenue at 11:00 AM.

On Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm Project Longevity New Haven in collaboration with the Courtland Wilson Library located at 303 Washington Avenue will host the screening of " For Akeem ". This film takes a stark look at life through a young woman's eyes of what is happening around her. I hope you will consider joining us and possibly bring a friend or two for the showing of the film. A brief dialogue will take place after the screening. Project Longevity New Haven is an innovative and nontraditional law enforcement initiative to group/gang gun violence reduction. As well, as reconciling police to the community. In the City of New Haven we have had some past successes, but we need to do more. So that together we can save lives.
