DORCHESTER, MA – CES Boxing has been quietly adding to its impressive stable of fighters as 2023 comes to an end. Most recently, the Providence based outfit signed 28-year-old lightweight prospect Tevin "Hitman" Regis (1-0, 1 KO) to an exclusive promotional agreement.

"I am thrilled to sign Tevin," said CES founder, Jimmy Burchfield, Sr. "I was blown away by his pro debut in August and am convinced that he has the poise, skill and charisma to become a star in the loaded lightweight division."

Regis made his pro debut on August 5th a memorable one, knocking out Joshua Zimmerman in devastating fashion in the first round at the Polar Park in Worcester, MA. Sitting ringside that night was Burchfield, Sr., who was so impressed with Tevin’s performance that he immediately scheduled a meeting with brothers Marc and Nico Gargaro, who train and manage Regis, respectively, out of the Nonantum Boxing Club in Newton, MA.

The moment was a very special one for Regis, whose mother tragically passed away only a few weeks before his pro debut.

"I lost my mom on July 5th, and my fight was literally a month later on August 5th," laments Regis.  "In the hospital few weeks before she passed away, my mom told me that she dreamt about the fight and saw me win my pro debut.  When I won the fight and had my hand raised, I felt like I was in that dream.  It was a special feeling.  For the outcome to be a 1st round knockout and to then get the attention of Jimmy and CES, it felt like a dream come true."

While Regis grew up watching the likes of Roy Jones, Jr., Floyd Mayweather, and Mike Tyson, he never considered a career in the squared circle.  The Dorchester native instead played football his entire life, from Pop Warner through college football at Fitchburg State University to playing semi-pro for a few years after that. It wasn’t until his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when Tevin was 24 that he became inspired to fight.

"My mom was fighting breast cancer since 2019," explains Regis.  "That was a big part of what drove me to boxing.  She was going through her own fight.  She always stood strong and showed me how strong she was, and I felt like I wanted to pick a fight of my own."

Looking for a place to train, Regis found the Nonantum Boxing Club, where he quickly picked up the nuances of the Sweet Science from Marc Gargaro, who was a US Olympic team coach from 2017 to 2021.  Only 4 years and 20 amateur bouts later, the pair decided to try the pro ranks.

"I kind of landed in the perfect place," reflects Regis of signing with CES Boxing.  "I paid a lot of attention to the boxing scene in Massachusetts over the last few years, and CES is pretty much the biggest promotional company out there.  I had a short amateur career, but I have a great trainer with a lot of experience.  He’s so technical that I was able to develop my skills in a shorter timeframe."

"Tevin is going to move fast," said Gargaro, who now also serves as the head coach of Team Combat League’s Boston Butchers. "I’ve seen him perform well against top talent and he has the power to end a fight at any moment.  We’re excited about signing with CES.  I think it’s a perfect move for him and his career."

Regis’ first assignment with CES is a homecoming bout to kick off the new year, when he faces East Hartford, CT’s Salvatore Pugliares (0-1-1) at Freeport Hall in Dorchester, MA on January 13th.

"I don’t know too much about him personally," admits Regis of Pugliares.  "I’ve seen one of his fights and got a sense of his fighting style.  I’m just preparing to be the best me in front of my friends and family, and I’m not too worried about what he can do."

With a new promoter in tow and a homecoming fight on the schedule, 2024 looks to be a promising year for the lightweight prospect.

Hall-of-Famer Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt (24-6-2, 7 KOs) continues her comeback on Saturday night, facing Josefina Vega (9-5, 4 KOs) in an 8-round lightweight bout. The fight serves as the co-feature to Chordale Booker’s WBC US super welterweight title defense against Nicolas Hernandez on CES Boxing’s stacked “Summer Heat 2023” show at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

This will be Clampitt’s 5th bout since coming out of retirement in 2021 after an 8-year layoff, when she left the squared circle to raise her family and pursue other interests. The Warwick, RI, resident initially retired after suffering an injury in a TKO loss to Holly Holm in 2010.

“I had 2 young children and training with toddlers was pretty much impossible,” reflects Clampitt of the difficult decision to leave the sport. “After my son, I wanted to try it one more time and have a retirement fight and then I thought 'I’m done.'”

Having won 4 major world titles across 2 weight classes, Clampitt won a unanimous decision over Dominga Olivo at Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, RI, and left boxing in 2013 with a 21-5-1 record, having accomplished her lifelong dream of becoming a world champion several times over.

But while Jaime focused on her family and “On the Ropes,” a gym located in Warwick that she owns with 3 other women, a funny thing happened to female boxing: the sport exploded in popularity with the emergence of Irish superstar Katie Taylor in a way that no one could have imagined.

“I didn’t think I’d have another chance at this, but women like Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano brought female boxing to another level,” admits Clampitt, who stayed active during her hiatus by bodybuilding and training amateur fighters. “Once I started to see that, I thought: ‘I’m still in awesome shape, I’m in the gym every day. Why not? Let’s just see what happens.’”

As Clampitt contemplated a return to the ring, she called her friend and now trainer Steve Maze about working out again.

“I said, ‘let’s just hit the mitts and see what happens,’” recalls Clampitt, who returned to the sport almost 8 years later in 2021. “I never lost the love for boxing, and once I started training, I just got that desire and drive again.”

What Clampitt wasn’t aware of is that because she had been retired for more than 5 years, she was being considered for the International Boxing Hall of Fame at a time when she was planning a comeback.

“I didn’t know that I was nominated,” laughs Clampitt. “One day, one of the amateur boxers that I trained said ‘Why didn’t you tell me that you were nominated into the hall of fame?’ I didn’t even know. It was a surprise. I was wondering: should I be coming out of retirement? I just got this nomination, I don’t know, but everyone was so supportive and understanding.”

When Jaime returned, she noticed that female boxing had drastically changed – not only were women being compensated more fairly, but they were headlining major events.

“I’ve been to quite a few big fights over the years, and Taylor-Serrano was the most insane fight I’ve ever been to,” says Clampitt of the 2022 ‘Fight of the Year’ between two of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. “I actually cried because I was so proud of both of them.”

The fight was the culmination of years of growth in a sport where the female fighters are setting the example of the best facing the best. The attention garnered was nothing like what the 47-year-old experienced earlier in her career.

“I got my pro license in 1999 and my first pro fight in 2000, so I’ve been around forever,” explains Clampitt. “When I started amateur boxing in 1992, they didn’t even want to put us on amateur shows or even have us in the gym. No one would even put us on shows until I met Mr. [Jimmy] Burchfield [Sr., founder of CES Boxing]. He is a pioneer of female boxing. He was one of the first promoters that put females on, so to see these women headlining at Madison Square Garden was very emotional for me.”

Indeed, Jimmy Burchfield Sr. played a pivotal role in Clampitt relocating from her native Gravelbourg in Saskatchewan, Canada, to settling and fighting out of Warwick, Rhode Island.

“I got the opportunity to fight Liz Mueller at Foxwoods, and she was promoted by Jimmy,” recalls Clampitt of her first fight in the United States in February 2001, when she was 3-0. “I knew who she was because we were in the world championships in Finland together. We fought on ESPN at a time when women were not featured on TV. Teddy Atlas was commentating the fight, and everyone thought I won it.”

Mueller was awarded a close majority decision, but Clampitt’s performance impressed Burchfield so much that he offered her a contract a few months later. By June of that year, “The Hurricane” was making her CES debut in her adopted state of Rhode Island, where she’s lived ever since. The pairing paid off, as Clampitt rose to the top of the lightweight and super lightweight divisions under CES Boxing’s banner.

2007 turned out to be Clampitt’s best year. In February, she won the IBF lightweight title against the ultra-popular Mia St. John. Clampitt followed that up in June with a unanimous decision over the legendary Jane Couch for the vacant IBF super lightweight title.

“Mr. Burchfield always treated me with the upmost respect and believed in me,” says Clampitt of her longtime promoter. “When I fought Mia St. John, I was the main event. That was unheard of. Besides Christy Martin, there weren’t a lot of females headlining shows. He took a chance on me, and I will forever be grateful because not only did he do a ton for my career, but he did a lot for female boxing getting us known and seen because he was putting me on TV.”

And while the sport has changed in many ways, Clampitt has also gained a lot from her time away from it.

“My style has changed over the years,” says Jaime of her evolution. “I had a long amateur career, so when I started, I showed a lot of movement and boxed on my toes. As I’ve aged, I feel stronger and I feel like I have more power, so I like to get in there and mix it up. I spent years building a lot of strength and I like to use that a lot more in the ring now.”

Not only did Jaime’s physical strength improve, but the years away allowed her hands to fully recover after dozens of amateur and professional fights.

“It was a lot of start-stop for me at the time,” says Jaime of nagging hand injuries. “It was very disappointing when I was younger, but the rest in between allowed my body to heal. I had 8 years off before my comeback. I didn’t spar when I was off. I was lifting weights, I was raising kids, I was in the gym, but not getting hit. That’s given me longevity.”

On Saturday, the rejuvenated Clampitt plans to use all of her experience and boxing ability when she faces the little known Josefina Vega at Mohegan Sun Arena.

“She’s a veteran of the sport,” says Clampitt of her Ecuadorian opponent, who has been boxing since 2012. “There’s not a lot of information on her, so my team and I are ready for anything. If I have to box, I’ll box. If I need to go after her, I’ll go after her. The exciting part of this camp is that we have to be ready for anything. We’re going to have to adapt and we know that.”

And while her comeback ideally leads to a 5th world title, the practical Warwick resident takes it one step at a time and is equally focused on being compensated fairly in the new women’s boxing economy.

“Of course, I would love to fight for a title,” acknowledges Clampitt. “Right now, we just take it fight by fight because of my age. I’m 47. It’s almost unheard of in male or female boxing. Boxing changed a lot over 30+ years, and I want to be part of something great and push myself. I’ve had so many people tell me ‘no’ during my career that I want to prove them wrong. While I don’t do it for the money, I deserve to be compensated adequately for what I’ve done. I’m still motivated, still healthy, and I’m going to keep going as long as I can.”

It was the first fight at 135 pounds for the SMS Promotions fighter, who had previously dominated the the Featherweight and Super Featherwight divisions. Gamboa was in control the entire fight. He knocked Perez down with a left hook at the end of the first round and received winning scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 115-112.

The victory raised Gamboa's record to 23-0.

Vincent hopes hard work, commitment lead to victory Friday in main event title bout at Twin River

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 16th, 2013) -- Tomorrow night, Shelito Vincent, the unbeaten bantamweight from New London, Conn., will have the opportunity to achieve something most boxers only dream about when she fights Angel Gladney for the vacant Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) International championship in front of her hometown fans at Twin River Casino.

As if often the case in evenly-matched title bouts, the outcome might hinge on who wants it more.

"There's no way this girl is working harder than me," said Vincent (8-0), who now lives and trains in Providence under the guidance of Peter Manfredo Sr. "Why wouldn't I work hard for something I've wanted my whole life?"

Vincent's shot at the title, which is the eight-round main event of "The New Era," presented by Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Entertainment & Sports, comes just a year and a half after her professional debut in 2011, a rapid climb even by female boxing standards. It's also the first women's title bout to be held in Rhode Island since Jaime Clampittfaced Belinda Laracuente for the International Women's Boxing Federation (IWBF) lightweight title at Twin River in 2008. Vincent's opponent, Gladney (8-7-1, 6 KOs), is a tough veteran from Columbia, S.C., who has fought for a title before, namely in 2010 when she challenged Kaliesha West for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) female bantamweight title. That fight ended in a seventh-round knockout win for West. Will Gladney's second shot at a title end differently?

"In 2010, it just wasn't my time," said the 25-year-old Gladney. "I was too young, but it was an experience for me. I learn as I go. I didn't have much amateur experience, so fighting Kaliesha West was a real learning experience. Of all the girls she's fought, she said I was the toughest, so I've kept my head up and kept going."

The one edge Gladney has entering Friday's showdown is she has six knockout wins on her resume, whereas Vincent has yet to record a knockout, but, as Vincent pointed out, "she has a lot of losses, too, and I don't have any of those."

"But I respect her a lot," Vincent added. "I know it's going to be a tough fight. If you want to be the best, you have to start fighting the best. I'm ready. There's nothing I've wanted more than this. She better be ready for a fight."

Gladney, who considers herself a counterpuncher with "a little bit of everything" in her arsenal, credits her trainer, Dominic Neal, and promoter, Andrew Stokes, for keeping her on track. Following back-to-back losses at the end of 2012, Gladney kicked off the new year with a win over Kelan Robey in April, her final test before she faces Vincenttomorrow night.

"I really wanted to get that win," Gladney said. "I'm really excited about this opportunity. I just want to keep fighting and stay active. I love this sport."

Vincent was originally supposed to face Christina Ruiz of Texas, but Ruiz pulled out of the fight, citing a hand injury. Gladney accepted the challenge on just two week's notice. The stage has now been set forFriday night in what will be a major opportunity for both Vincent and Gladney.

"When I got into boxing, this is what I dreamt about," Vincent said. "I'm going hard on Friday night."

"Mr. Providence" Vladine Biosse (14-2-1, 7 KOs) will also return to the ring May 17^th in the eight-round super middleweight co-feature against Philadelphia's Latif Mundy (10-5, 4 KOs). The undercard features seven bouts, most of which are regional showdowns, starting with Pawtucket, R.I., middleweight Thomas Falowo (9-1, 7 KOs) stepping up to face undefeated power-puncherTylon Burris (5-0, 3 KOs) of Hartford, Conn., in a six-round bout. Super middleweight Rich Gingras (12-3, 8 KOs) of Attleboro, Mass., a former contestant on The Contender reality television series, will battle the red-hot Joey Gardner (11-5-1, 1 KO) of Woonsocket, R.I., in a six-round bout.

The always-busy Falowo, who's known for throwing a high volume of punches from start to finish, will have his hands full with Burris, who has raised eyebrows in New England following an impressive knockout win over previously-unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Kevin Cobbs in November. Falowo has won his last three bouts, all by knockout, since suffering his first loss in May of 2012.

The Gingras-Gardner showdown came to fruition after Providence's Alex Amparo was forced to withdraw from his scheduled rematch with Gardner due to a rib injury. Gardner, who has won his last three fights, will instead face Gingras, a former cruiserweight now looking to make his mark in the super middleweight division.

Also on the undercard, Boston's Maceo Crowder (2-0, 1 KO), the half-brother of former U.S. Olympian and Providence native Demetrius Andrade, will return from a three-year absence to face Harwich, Mass., veteran Paul Gonsalves (4-3, 3 KOs) in a four-round super middleweight bout; and welterweight Jon Smith (1-0) of Cranston, R.I., will battle newcomer Oscar Diaz of Hartford, Conn., in a four-round bout. In a six-round special attraction, former Cranston amateur standout Nick DeLomba will make his professional debut against Portland, Maine native Jimmy Smith (0-0-0); the latter is returning to the ring for the first time in more than a year after his debut was cut short due to an accidental head butt. Smith and DeLomba faced one another twice as amateurs with each fighter winning once.

Hyannis, Mass., heavyweight Jesse Barboza (5-1-1, 3 KOs) will take on West New York, N.J., challenger Phillip Triantafillo (2-2, 1 KO) in a four-round bout, and Springfield, Mass., welterweight Zack Ramsey (3-0, 3 KOs) will return to face Bryan Abraham (6-16-2, 6 KOs) of Schenectady, N.Y., in a four-round bout. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

CES is proud to announce its May 17^th event will be held in honor of those affected by the recent Boston Marathon bombings, along with all the first responders, fire fighters and law-enforcement officials who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of such a senseless tragedy. A pro since 2001, Narh is 25-2, 21 knockouts, but has not fought since May 7, 2011, when he was stopped in three rounds by Mike Alvarado, of Denver, CO, on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV.

Originally from Ghana, Narh won the vacant Pennsylvania lightweight title in 2006 when he stopped Ramazan Paliani in the loser's Philadelphia backyard. He also has wins over former WBA featherweight champion Freddie Norwood, of St. Louis, MO, and Steve Quinonez, of Palm Springs, CA.

Cruz, 26, of Bethlehem, has not boxed since Sept. 21, 2012, when he lost for the first time, dropping a 10-round split decision to Antwone Smith, of Miami, FL, at the Sands. His record is 17-1, 12 K0s.

Beantown native Font ready to step to the plate again in yet another tough fight Friday

LINCOLN, R.I. (April 10th, 2013) -- Rather than sit back and wait for the right fight to come to him, Rob Font has taken a much more proactive approach to his budding mixed martial arts career.

"If you're willing to fight all of the tougher guys no one else wants to fight, you can stay busy," said the Boston native, who'll return to the cage Friday night at Twin River Casino. "If you try to look for that guy with a 5-5 record, it might not work out."

No wonder Font (5-1, 1 KO) has been so active this year; in February, he dominated former No. 1-ranked featherweight Saul Almeida in one of the early-candidates for the 2013 upset of the year, and now he's preparing for another tall task Friday, April 12^th, 2013 when he faces undefeated Lucas Cruz (6-0, 2 KOs) on the undercard of Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Entertainment & Sports' "Path Of Destruction" card.

Coincidentally, Font has carved his own path the old-fashioned way by taking on whoever stands in front of him, regardless of record, height or whatever intangible that might work against him. The win over Almeida, a former Bellator Fighting Championships veteran, was the biggest of his career, which began professionally in 2011, but he could surpass that Friday if he upends Cruz, a rising star also fighting out of Boston who has racked up his own impressive resume since he first stepped into the cage two years ago.

"This is a totally different matchup," said Font, referring primarily to the contrast in style between Almeida and Cruz, not to mention Almeida's lanky, 6-foot-1 frame, "but I honestly think it's a better matchup for me stylistically.

"With Almeida, you're dealing with his length and his grappling. Cruz comes forward, and I think I'm a better counterpuncher than anyone he's ever fought."

Against Almeida, Cruz stayed on the outside and used a deadly arsenal of front- and rear-leg kicks, along with his jab, to keep his taller opponent at bay.

"Everyone who fights tall guys always tries to get on the inside and work the body, but I didn't want to get too close where he could take me down," Font said. "I could definitely see his frustration building up. He tried to shoot for a takedown like three or four times, but he wasn't even close. I knew his whole game plan; he likes to take you down, stay on top and smother you."

Can Font prevent Cruz from implementing his own game plan? Chances are both fighters stay on their feet for the duration of the fight, which is the way Font wants it.

"I love those kind of fights," he said. "Those are the fights I do well in. I can't wait. He's a little like [Ultimate Fighting Championships middleweight champion] Anderson Silva in that he always comes forward. He likes to clinch a lot and drive those knees. I need a lot of lateral movement and to keep my jab in his face the whole time."

Cruz not only presents a different challenge, but perhaps the most difficult fight of Font's young career. Nicknamed "The Golden Boy," the 23-year-old Cruz last fought in December when he won a unanimous decision against previously-unbeaten featherweight Andres Jeudi. Prior to that, he won convincingly against veterans John Ortolani (first-round knockout) and Pete Jeffrey (first-round submission) to earn a spot among the top five fighters in his weight class in the northeast. Typically a lightweight, Cruz is moving down to featherweight for this fight and, in doing so, taking on one of the hottest fighters in this weight class.

With a win Friday, Font could wind up in the same conversation among the best featherweights in the region.

"That'd be awesome," Font said. "I feel I've been battle-tested, and Cruz is another worthy opponent."

Baltimore Ravens cheerleader Courtney Lenz, 23, says she has been barred from the Super Bowlbecause she weighs too much.

Lenz made the comments during an interview on "Access Hollywood" on Wednesday evening.

"They said that I had quote, unquote, a rough year," Lenz said. "I'd been benched earlier in the season for a little bit of a weight gain. We do get weighed every week during the season, and you can't fluctuate at all. I gained, I think it was 1.8 pounds. I had been consistent and they let me cheer previously and then I gained 1.8 or 1.6 pounds and they said because I had gained weight and they wanted me to be consistent or they wanted me to lose, they benched me for a game and because it was a disciplinary action, that was the reason."

Lenz went on to say that she weighs 124 pounds.

"During the season, I was 124. That was consistently, they wanted me to get back down to 121, 120, which is what I was at when I was 18, 19, when I started on the team," she said. "That was the only disciplinary action I had during the year. I got benched because of my weight, and they said that was the reason. Anybody that had disciplinary action taken during the season was automatically disqualified [from the Super Bowl]. However, there are some girls on the team that were also benched for their weight, and are going. So they just aren't consistent, it isn't fair. That's why I brought this to the attention of the fans because what they're doing is not right."

Lenz has been a Ravens cheerleader for five years.

The Ravens released a statement Thursday morning about the situation:

"As set by the NFL, we are permitted to bring 32 cheerleaders to the Super Bowl. Our selection process was based upon three criteria: seniority, performance ability and personal conduct throughout the season. As much as we would like to take the whole team, we are unable to do so, due to parameters set by the NFL
