Meet Boston's newest sports franchise, the Boston Butchers, on Thursday, April 4 at Peter Welch's Gym in South Boston.  The event begins at 1pm and is open to the public.

SOUTH BOSTON, MA – CES Boxing CEO Jimmy Burchfield Sr. will be hosting a press conference at Peter Welch's Gym in South Boston on Thursday at 1pm to announce the city's newest sports team, The Boston Butchers.  The event is open to the public.

The Boston Butchers is the newest city to join Team Combat League (TCL), an innovative team boxing concept where teams compete against one another in a season schedule and the winners face off in the playoffs to decide a Champion.

"I'm very excited to present The Boston Butchers to the city of Boston," said Burchfield, who serves as the team's General Manager.  "We've put together a tremendous team featuring fighters from all over Massachusetts and New England.  The level of talent involved is unbelievable and we plan on adding to the championship glory that other Boston teams like the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox have brought to this great city."

Each TCL match features 24 bouts across boxing's 8 original weight classes.  What's unique is that each bout is scheduled for one 3-minute round and is scored by a panel of 3 judges.  A round is scored 10-9 for the winner.  If a knockdown occurs, the scoring is 10-8.  In the case of 2 knockdowns or a stoppage, the round is scored 10-7.  After 24 rounds, all the individual round scores are added up and the team with the highest total score is announced as the winner.

Members of the press, boxing fans, and the local community are invited to join us at Peter Welch's Gym to meet the fighters, the team's head coach Marc Gargaro, and General Manager Jimmy Burchfield Sr.

Details for the press conference are as follows:

Date:
 Thursday, April 4th
Time: 1pm EST
Location: Peter Welch's Gym, 371 Dorchester Ave, South Boston, MA 02127
*Open to the Public

CES Boxing returns to its home state of Rhode Island on March 23rd with a fantastic doubleheader featuring Alejandro "El Abusador" Paulino facing Estivan "Tunny" Falcao for the vacant WBC US Silver Lightweight Championship, a battle for the vacant New England Lightweight title between "King" Kevin Walsh and Matt "The Mantis" Doherty, welterweight prospect Wilson "Ill Will" Mascarenhas against wily veteran Braulio Rodriguez, and much more.

Alejandro Paulino: Faith, Patience, and the quest for his first pro title

12400419859?profile=RESIZE_710x

March 23 is a significant day for lightweight prospect Alejandro "El Abusador" Paulino (16-0, 13 KOs). The Dominican-born, Providence, RI based fighter headlines his first major card at Bally's Twin River Lincoln Casino against Brazilian upset specialist Estivan Falcao (13-3, 7 KOs). On the line is a chance for Paulino to win his first professional title, the WBC US Silver Lightweight championship.

Paulino v. Falcao serves as the main event of a stacked 'CES Boxing Homecoming' card at Bally's Twin River Lincoln Casino on March 23.  Purchase your tickets now, priced at $60, $80, $155, and $180, at CES Fights or the Twin River Lincoln Casino box office.

It’s an assignment that Paulino relishes.  The pugilist wants to impress so badly that he took the drastic steps of quitting his day job and moving into the Big 6 Boxing Academy in Providence, Rhode Island for the duration of the training camp.

"Training camp has been great," says an enthusiastic Paulino.  "I'm staying at the gym right now, so I’m doing things differently this time. All I do is train all day, every day. Monday through Saturday, 3 times a day. We’re ready for whatever Falcao brings to the fight on March 23."

Living in New London, Connecticut and making the one hour plus drive to Rhode Island is something that the 25-year-old has done on a daily basis since turning pro in 2021.  What’s different about this camp is that Paulino has literally moved into the boxing gym, where he trains from Monday through Saturday before driving home for the weekend.

Like many immigrants who come to the US in search of a brighter future, the Dominican fighter happily makes sacrifices with the faith that all his hard work will pay off in the long run.  He’s also making up for lost time: while Alejandro wrestled through high school, he only picked up boxing 7 years ago at 18 years old.

"I had 37 amateur fights," explains Paulino of his brief but successful amateur career.  "I won the Golden Gloves 3 times.  I went to Nationals once and made it to the semi-finals. I could’ve gone to Nationals again, but COVID hit and it was cancelled.  I decided to turn pro after that."

What makes Paulino’s amateur achievements even more impressive is that he won those titles as a self-trained fighter.  Alejandro knew that this was a gap he needed to fill if he wanted to become a world champion.

"I was just going to the gym and practicing things I learned by watching others or from what I saw on Youtube," recalls Paulino.  "At a certain point I hit a level where I got stuck.  I knew I had to make a change, and that's when I went to Nationals and met Jason Estrada."

Jason ‘Big Six’ Estrada, a 2004 US Olympian and former heavyweight pro boxer from Providence, Rhode Island, liked what he saw in the raw Paulino and invited the Dominican to train at his Big Six Boxing Academy under the tutelage of his father, Dr. Roland Estrada.  It was a perfect fit.

"That's the best thing that ever happened to me," says a grateful Paulino.  "I’m always improving, not just on the technical side but also my cardio.  When I first came in, I would get tired after sparring 3 rounds.  Now my conditioning is great and something I always work on."

A big Manny Pacquiao fan growing up, Paulino adopted an aggressive, all action style as a pro that depends on conditioning.  Thankfully, he’s a smart fighter who understands that activity keeps him sharp. In an era where boxers are considered active when they fight 3 times a year, Paulino has fought 15 times in 3 years, and this will be his second fight of 2024.

"It’s been great fighting often because it keeps me in the gym," says Paulino.  "Not that I need motivation to train, but I like training more when I have a fight coming up. It keeps me sharp and learning, trying a lot of new things."

Paulino will need to bring his entire toolkit on March 23, when he faces upstart Estivan "Tunny" Falcao. The 27-year-old Brazilian is known for derailing prospects, handing Djamel Dahou his first loss via knockout last May and following that up with a decision win over James Bernadin 3 months later.  What compounds the danger is that the Brazilian is a largely unknown commodity.

"I just found out about him 2 weeks ago," admits Paulino. "I looked at his record and watched some of his fights.  He’s dangerous.  He just beat someone who is 18-0, and one that is 10-1-1, so it’s going to be a great fight.  I’m not overlooking him."

Ever the student, Paulino learned from his 8-round decision win over D’Angelo Keyes in February that while he will always enter the ring with knockout intentions, it’s better to let the knockout come to him rather than to force it.

"Last fight I was trying to get a knockout," says Paulino, who knocked Keyes down twice in round 3 but couldn’t put away the crafty Texan. "It didn't happen. I learned a lot because I wanted to knock him out so bad that all my shots were power punches.  Once I hurt him, he was holding a lot and didn’t do too much offensively.  He was trying to survive.  Now I know that you can't knock everybody out.  I’m not going to go there and try to force stuff; I’m going to be more patient and set things up better.  If I have him hurt, I won’t rush things."

What Paulino hopes is that Falcao comes to win so that a real fight breaks out for the fans at the sold-out Bally’s Twin River Lincoln Casino.

"I’m looking for guys who are coming to win," insists Paulino.  "Guys with good records. He's 13-3. Keyes was 17-3. I'm gonna take my time and see what he does, but if the knockout is there, I'm gonna go for it. I like knock outs. The fans like knockouts, and I want to give the fans a good show."

Alejandro Paulino believes that he has made the sacrifices necessary to give the fans a fight they'll remember.  If Falcao is as focused as he was when he upset Dahou and Bernadin last year, we’re in for an electric main event on March 23.

And along with Qree- — Queen Riana [Rania], who is meeting with Jill now, and the Queen — and the Crown Prince Hussein.  Where — is the Prince out here?  I thought he was coming out.  Any rate.

We’ve known each other for many years.  And His Majesty has been a good friend all those years, a steadfast partner alongside the Queen, and a beloved leader to their people.  The partnership between the United States and our ally Jordan is strong and it is enduring.

12381453257?profile=RESIZE_710xthe King and I discussed with our senior foreign policy staffs what — the issue that’s front and center in the Middle East and well beyond: the war between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas.  Over four months ago, on October the 7th, Hamas attacked Israel in an act of sheer evil, massacring more than 1,200 innocent women, men, and children — the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

More than 250 hostages were taken.  A hundred and thirty-four are still being held hostage by Hamas.  We don’t know how many are still alive.  The anguish that their families are enduring week after week, month after month is unimaginable.  And it’s a top priority for the United States to bring them home.

I’ve made clear the United States shares the goal of seeing Hamas defeated and ensuring long-term security for Israel and its people.

After the October 7th attacks, Hamas retreated back into Gaza, where its leaders live in underground tunnels, stretching for over 100 miles beneath civilian infrastructure, including — including schools, playgrounds, and neighborhoods.

The past four months, as the war has raged, the Palestinian people have also suffered unimaginable pain and loss.  Too many — too many of the over 27,000 Palestinians killed in this conflict have been innocent civilians and children, including thousands of children.  And hundreds of thousands have no access to food, water, or other basic services.

Many families have lost not just one but many relatives and cannot mourn for them or even bury them because it’s not safe to do so.  It’s heart-breaking.

Every innocent life [lost] in Gaza is a tragedy, just as every innocent life lost in Israel is a tragedy as well.  We pray for those lives taken — both Israeli and Palestinian — and for the grieving families left behind.

Not only do we pray for peace, we are actively working for peace, security, and dignity for both the Palestinian people and the Israeli people.  And I’m working on this day and night with the King and others in the region to find the means to bring all these hostages home, to ease the humanitarian crisis, and to end the terror threat and to bring peace to Gaza and Israel — an enduring peace with a two-state solution for two peoples.

As the King and I discussed today, the United States is working on a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, which would bring immediate and sustained period of calm into Gaza for at least six weeks, which we could then take the time to build something more enduring.

Over the past month, I’ve had calls with Prime Minister Netanyahu, as well as the leaders of Egypt and Qatar, to push this forward.  The key element of the deals are on the table.  There are gaps that remain, but I’ve encouraged Israeli leaders
to keep working to achieve the deal.  The United States will do everything possible to make it happen.

The King and I also discussed the situation in Rafah.  As I said yesterday, our military operation in Rafah — their — the major military operation in Rafah should not proceed without a credible plan — a credible plan for ensuring the safety and support of more than one million people sheltering there.  Many people there have been displaced — displaced multiple times, fleeing the violence to the north, and now they’re packed into Rafah — exposed and vulnerable.  They need to be protected.

And we have also been clear from the start: We oppose any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.

Today, the King and I also discussed in detail how to get more humanitarian aid into Gaza.  From the very beginning, my team and I have relentlessly worked to get more aid in.  I urged Congress for months to make sure that our nation’s support for Israel and — also includes urgently needed aid for Palestinians.  And I’ve spoken repeatedly with partners across the region, including the King, to help facilitate the flow of such aid into Gaza as much as possible and that will actually get to the people that there — that are — need it.

We worked to get the Rafah Crossing open.  We worked to get Kerem Shalom open.  And we insist that we remain — it remain open — both remain open.  We’re working to open other routes as well.  And we’re also working relentlessly to make sure aid workers can get the aid where it’s needed once it gets through.

I want to recognize Jordan and the King specifically for all he has done to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, including just a few days ago.  He personally got in a plane and helped conduct an air drop of urgently needed medical supplies into Gaza.

I understand that two of his children have also joined those air drops.  They helped fly humanitarian supplies in.  And for years, the Queen has been passionate — a passionate advocate for the Palestinian people, particularly women and children.  Your family’s leadership, Your Majesty, and humanitarian commitment are commendable.

And at the same time, we’re working to create the conditions for a lasting peace, as we talked a lot about upstairs, with the Israeli security guaranteed and Palestinian aspirations for their own state fulfilled.  I say this as a long — lifelong supporter of Israel.  That’s the only path that guarantees Israel’s security for the long term.  To achieve it, the Palestinians must also seize the opportunity.

As I discussed with the King today, the Palestinian Authority must re- — urgently reform so it can effectively deliver for the Palestinian people in both the West Bank and Gaza.  Once Hamas’s control of Gaza is over, they must prepare to build a state that accepts peace, does not harbor terrorist groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

And together, we will keep working to complete what has — what we started: to integrate the region, to bring about peace between Israel and all its Arab neighbors, including a Palestinian state.  That effort was already underway before the October 7th attacks.  It’s even more urgent today.

No one — no one understands better than our allies and partners in the region, including the King, what we need.  I’m grateful to him for his friendship, including his and Jordan’s unique role — unique role: custodian of the holy sites in Jerusalem.

We’re grateful for this friendship.  We saw that again just two weeks ago when three brave American servicemembers were killed in an attack at a military outpost in Jordan, close to the Syrian border, by radical militant groups backed by Iran, operating in Syria and Iraq.  Since then, U.S. military forces have struck targets in Iraq and Syria, and our response will continue.

We’re grateful for our partners and allies like the King who work with us every single day to advance security and stability across the region and beyond.  It’s difficult times like these when the bonds between nations are more important than ever.

And Jill and I are pleased to welcome him and the Queen and the Crown Prince to the White House today.

Your Majesty, over to you.

KING ABDULLAH II:  Thank you, sir.

(President Biden moves from one side of the podium to the other.)

Mr. —

PRESIDENT BIDEN:  I switched sides on you.

KING ABDULLAH II:  Sorry.

Mr. President, thank you for your gracious hospitality accorded to me and my delegation today.

My visit today carries an added meaning as our countries this year mark 75 years of exemplary strategic partnership.  However, we had hoped we would be marking this major milestone during better circumstances in my region and the world.

Unfortunately, one of the most devastating wars in recent history continues to unfold in Gaza as we speak.  Nearly 100,000 people have been killed, injured, or are missing.  The majority are women and children.

We cannot afford an Israeli attack on Rafah.  It is certain to produce another humanitarian catastrophe.  The situation is already unbearable for over a million people who have been pushed into Rafah since the war started.

We cannot stand by and let this continue.  We need a lasting ceasefire now.  This war must end.  We must urgently and immediately work to ensure the sustainable delivery of sufficient aid to Gaza through all possible entry points and mechanisms.  And I thank you, Mr. President, for your support on this.

Restrictions on vital relief aid and medical items are leading to inhumane conditions.  No other U.N. agency can do what UNRWA is doing in helping the people of Gaza through this humanitarian catastrophe.

Its work in other areas of operation — especially in Jordan, where 2.3 million are registered — is also vital.  It is imperative that UNRWA continues to receive the support it needs to carry out its mandate.

The potential threat of Palestinian displacement beyond the borders of Gaza and the West Bank is something we view with extreme concern and cannot be allowed.

At the same time, we must ignore — we must not ignore the situation in the West Bank and in the holy sites in Jerusalem.

Nearly 400 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since October 7th, including almost 100 children, and over 4,000 injured.

Continued escalations by extremist settlers in the West Bank and Jerusalem’s holy sites and the expansion of illegal settlements will unleash chaos on the entire region.

The vast majority of Muslim worshippers are not being allowed to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque.  Christian churches have also voiced concerns about increasing and unprecedented restrictions and threats.

It is also important to stress that the separation of the West Bank and Gaza cannot be accepted.

Seven decades of occupation, death, and destruction have proven beyond any doubt that there can be no peace without a political horizon.

Military and security solutions are not the answer.  They can never bring peace.  Civilians on both sides continue to pay for this protracted conflict with their lives.

All attacks against innocent civilians — women and children — including those of October 7th, cannot be accepted by any Muslim, as I have previously stressed.

We must make sure the horrors of the past few months since October 7th are never repeated nor accepted by any human being.

We must together, along with Arab partners and the international community, step up efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and immediately start working to create a political horizon that leads to a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution — an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital but living side by side with Israel in peace and security.  This is the only solution that will guarantee peace and security for the Palestinians and the Israelis, as well as the entire region.

Your leadership, my dear friend, Mr. President, is key to addressing this conflict.  And Jordan is ready to work, as always, with you towards peace.

Thank you.

PRESIDENT BIDEN:  Thank

UNCASVILLE, CT – Chordale "The Gift" Booker (22-1, 10 KOs) turned back an inspired challenge from Greg "The Villain" Vendetti (23-6-1, 12 KOs) at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday night, winning a 10-round decision over the Wakefield native by scores of 99-91 (2) and 98-92.

The bout served as the main event of "Winter Brawl 2024," a 10-fight card that featured 3 WBC title fights, 7 supporting bouts and the ‘Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Invitational’ amateur showcase. The card was broadcast live on Swerve Combat TV.

Going into the bout, Booker was irked as Vendetti questioned whether Chordale had the grit and gas tank to win a war of attrition.  Booker swore that he would make a believer of ‘The Villain’ through the course of their 10-round contest, and he delivered on that promise.

Vendetti, a 33-year-old former world title challenger, was eager to pick up the WBC US Super Welterweight title that Booker won at Mohegan Sun Arena last April.  The title could only be won by 'The Villain' when Booker missed the super welterweight limit by one pound the day before.

The volume punching Vendetti began the fight as usual, pressing Booker behind a frenetic pace.  For his part, Booker circled the ring attempting to counter ‘The Villain’ while staying off the ropes.

Vendetti came in behind a low stance in round 2, and Booker took advantage of that with left uppercuts and right hooks to the head.  A left hand in round 3 opened a cut over Vendetti’s right eye.  The Wakefield resident briefly switched stances in round 4, looking to smother ‘The Gift’ and rough him up on the inside.  Booker looked for spots to counter in round 5, and the pugilists took turns teeing off on one another as the bell rang.

The Stamford native began to take control of the bout towards the end of round 7, pot shotting the stocky Vendetti.  True to his word, Booker seemed to be in full control of the pace of the fight by round 8, circling the ring, countering well and blocking most of Vendetti’s offense.  Booker dug to Vendetti’s body in round 9, causing ‘The Villain’ to double over in pain.  Chordale went in for the finish, launching a series of uppercuts to the head and lefts to the body.  The valiant Vendetti withstood the assault, soaking up the punishment and even pressing forward in round 10 as the fighters traded shots until the final bell.  Booker may have left the Mohegan Sun Arena without his coveted title, but he nevertheless proved to Vendetti and his hometown fans that he can not only survive under pressure, but win a war of attrition convincingly.

Ricky de los Santos (12-1, 3 KOs) scored the biggest victory of his 13-fight career in the co-feature, outworking New England rival Nathan Martinez (8-3, 2 KOs) to win the vacant WBC US Silver Super Featherweight championship.  The fight looked to be a 50/50 match up on paper, and the first round went according to script, with Ricky enjoying a reach advantage and Nathan countering well.  De los Santos began establishing his jab in round 2, and the Providence resident took over the contest in round 3 with his jab and occasional left hooks.  The 34-year-old added solid right hands in round 4, with Martinez trying his best to time and counter Ricky as the round came to an end.  De los Santos began breaking Martinez down in round 5, as the New Britain native went down from a questionable low blow and went as far as turning his back to de los Santos in round 6 citing a headbutt.  With his 4 daughters and his wife cheering him on ringside, de los Santos poured on the assault in round 7, outworking Martinez to claim the win.  After 8 rounds, the score cards read 79-73 and 78-74 (2x).  2024 is off to a great start for the 34-year-old, as his son was born in mid-January and he won the WBC title less than a month later.

Francis "Frank the Tank" Hogan (16-0, 14 KOs) also picked up the first title of his professional career, winning a shut out 8-round decision over fellow southpaw Dormedes Potes (14-6-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant WBC US Silver Middleweight title.  The colorful Hogan established a body attack in round one before launching a straight left to the head that dropped his Colombian opponent.  The Boston native returned to the body assault in round 3 and dominated the middle rounds behind a stiff jab, effective feints and a balanced attack to the head and body.  A left to the body dropped Potes for a second time in round 7, but the tough Colombian beat the count and launched an uppercut that temporarily halted Hogan’s progress.  After the ringside doctor checked on Potes between rounds, the Colombian fighter came alive, launching his own body attack.  It was short lived, however, as ‘Frank the Tank’ reestablished control, landing long left hands as the bout came to a close.  Scores were 80-70 (3x) for the new champion.

Lightweight prospect Alejandro "El Abusador" Paulino (16-0, 13 KOs) was extended the distance for the first time in 5 bouts, pounding out an 8-round unanimous decision over tough Texan D’Angelo Keyes (17-4, 11 KOs).  Paulino was sharper throughout the contest, landing hard left hooks and right hands.  ‘El Abusador’ dropped Keyes twice in round 3, first with a right to the head and later with a follow up flurry to the head and body.  Keyes bravely beat the count just as the round came to an end.  The doctor checked in on Keyes between rounds, and the game Texan was allowed to come out for more of the same in rounds 4 and 5.  Keyes enjoyed his best round in the 6th, landing flush right hands to Paulino’s head.  The shots had the 25-year-old in an unfamiliar position, as he was forced to back up for the first time in the fight.  In response, Paulino wisely chose to box in round 7.  A right hand bloodied Paulino’s nose in round 8, but the Dominican-born New Londoner had built up enough of a lead to win the bout comfortably.  Scores were 79-71 (3x) for the undefeated Paulino, who improved to 16-0 (13 KOs) while Keyes fell to 17-4 (11 KOs).

In a compelling flyweight battle, Hartford’s Angel "Set it Off" Gonzalez outworked and outlasted a tough Christian Robles over 8 scintillating rounds.  The fighters engaged in a war of attrition from the opening bell, with Robles focusing on a body attack and Gonzalez responding to the head.    Gonzalez tipped the scales in his favor in round 6, when a big right hand to the top of the head dropped Robles for an 8-count.  The Wild Card fighter made it to his feet and composed himself, only to be staggered again moments later.  Gonzalez hurt Robles once more with a flurry in round 7, but the Californian was able to weather the storm.  The fighters ended the fight as they started, trading hard shots back and forth until the final bell.  Scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74 for Gonzalez, who improved to 13-0 (7 KOs), while Robles dropped to 8-2 (3 KOs).

"King" Kevin Walsh (11-0, 5 KOs) wasted little time clinching his 11th win, dropping Puerto Rico’s Darrell Rivera (9-3-1, 7 KOs) with a tremendous counter right hand moments into their 6 round lightweight bout for a first-round stoppage.  Referee Ricky Gonzalez immediately waved off the contest as Rivera suffered his second consecutive knockout.

Port Chester, NY’s Carlos "All In" Vanegas Nunez (7-1, 6 KOs) made a triumphant return to the win column, blitzing Jaden Webb (2-2, 2 KOs) with a ferocious body assault that dropped the Beebe, AR native early in round one.  The follow-up attack continued as soon as Webb beat the count, causing referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to mercifully halt the bout at 2:00 of the opening stanza.

Up and coming Polish prospect Slawomir Bohdziewicz improved to a perfect 3-0 (3 KOs), knocking out Boston’s Bruno Saraiva (0-2) at 1:35 of round 2.  Bohdziewicz came out swinging from the opening seconds of the bout, landing sharp left jabs and clubbing right hands to the roar of the Polish contingent.  The Stamford resident continued the assault in round 2, backing Saraiva to a corner with a one-two combination.  Saraiva fought his way out, but a follow up left to the body dropped him to his knees and he was unable to beat Referee David Fields’ 10-count.

In the opening bout of the evening, James Maner (5-0, 2 KOs) used his reach and speed advantages to outbox Miguel Torres (2-1, 2 KOs) over 4 rounds in a middleweight bout.  Maner bled from his mouth from a head clash in round 2, but the 29-year-old remained composed under fire, staggering Torres with a counter right hook as the Dorchester native came forward.  Maner lost a point later in the round when he hit Torres after referee Arthur Mercante Jr. told the fighters to break.  Maner closed the fight strong, landing at will during the fourth and final round as his opponent followed him around the ring.  Scores were 39-36 3x for the Providence native.

"The Villain" Vendetti looks to steal the show at CES Boxing's Winter Brawl 2024

UNCASVILLE, CT – On Saturday, February 3rd, Greg "The Villain" Vendetti challenges Chordale "The Gift" Booker for his WBC USA Super Welterweight title at Mohegan Sun Arena.

It’s the perfect opportunity for the Stoneham, Massachusetts native to win a title, break into the WBC rankings and secure a more lucrative payday.

"My whole career, I’ve taken it one day at a time," says Vendetti, reluctant to look too far passed his opponent.  "I focus on what’s in front of me and it’s worked out well so far.  But if I were to beat Booker and blast him out of there, I’m sure we’ll get a call for a big money fight."

Despite Chordale Booker being on a four-fight winning streak, Vendetti likes his chances of upsetting the apple cart. In Booker, ‘The Villain’ sees a fair-weather fighter who does not deal well with adversity.

"From what I’ve seen of him, he seems to have a small gas tank and a brittle spirit," says Vendetti. "When a fight’s going well, he looks good and feels good.  When the fight’s going bad, he starts to fall apart."

The National Guardsman believes that pressure is the key to victory against Booker, which is ideal for him as a volume puncher.

"I’m a pressure guy," says Vendetti of his style.  "I have a big gas tank and big punch output.  I just have to be the best version of myself to get the win.  In the mid-to-late rounds, Booker starts to wilt against guys who put on half as much pressure as I’m gonna put on him."

If Vendetti sounds confident, it’s because he’s been on the big stage before.  ‘The Villain’ has wins over the likes of Japanese contender Yoshihiro Kamegai in 2018 and a competitive loss to two-division world champion Erislandy Lara in 2020.  Each experience has proven to Vendetti that he can hold his own against some of the best fighters in the world.

Vendetti isn’t sure whether Booker fits into that category.  In fact, the 32-year-old does not believe that a win against Booker would be the best of his career.

"I wouldn’t think it’s bigger than the Kamegai fight," admits Vendetti.  "Kamegai had a stacked record, win or lose.  He had a fight of the year with Jesus Soto-Karass; he had been in there with Robert Guerrero and Miguel Cotto.  Chordale hasn’t really fought anybody that good.  He doesn’t have any great wins.  Even the guys on his record who seem good, you take a closer look at their records, and they maybe beat 3 guys with winning records."

When pressed as to why he believes a victory over Booker wouldn’t stack up with his win over Kamegai, Vendetti believes it comes down to grit.

"As far as being a combatant and having the opportunity to show what you have against another guy who is also willing to sacrifice his life in there, it becomes about glory," says Vendetti.  "Kamegai was a samurai who was willing to die in there. I don’t feel like I’m going to get the same from Chordale Booker.  I don’t think I’ll have the same satisfying feeling from beating him."

And with that, the war of words has begun. These questions will only be answered on February 3rd when the two combatants meet in the ring at Mohegan Sun Arena.

'Winter Brawl 2024' tickets, priced starting at $67, are on sale now at CESfights.comticketmaster, or the Mohegan Sun Box Office.

Jamaine Ortiz: “I’m no longer waiting – I’m calling these guys out!”

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz will be a keenly interested observer at the Shakur Stevenson vs. Edwin de los Santos fight in Las Vegas tonight.  The bout takes place at the T-Mobile Arena with the vacant WBC Lightweight title on the line.

While the 27-year-old contender will be rooting for his compatriot to pull off what would be a stunning upset against one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world, Ortiz is also excited at the possibility of matching his own skills against Stevenson.

“I’m rocking with de los Santos, but if Shakur wins, then I’d like to get in the ring against him in January or February,” said Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs), whose uncle is part of Team de los Santos.

A fight against Stevenson was almost a reality for Ortiz just a few months ago, when fellow lightweight contender Frank Martin pulled out of a fight against Shakur after first accepting it.  The move opened the possibility for Jamaine to finally fight for a world title.

“We were very close to making a fight against Shakur happen,” explains Ortiz. “Shakur’s team were going down the rankings of the WBC, and everyone was turning the fight down.  I would’ve taken it, but de los Santos was one spot ahead of me in the rankings and he accepted the fight.”

With de los Santos taking the fight, Ortiz went back to the drawing board.  But rather than sit back and wait for another opportunity to materialize, Jamaine decided to take matters into his own hands.

“I’m no longer waiting,” emphasizes Ortiz.  “I’m out here initiating my next move.  I’m calling these guys out.  I’m tired of waiting.”

Ortiz’s last fight was a 10-round unanimous decision win in September against battle tested Mexican contender Antonio Moran.  The bout took place at a catchweight of 138 pounds, leading many to speculate that the Worcester native’s days as a lightweight were over.

While Ortiz admits that he is considering a move to 140, he insists that there are still a few big fights that would motivate him back to the lightweight division.

“My last fight was at 138 so that I could see how I felt at the higher weight,” says Ortiz.  “If there’s a chance that I can face Shakur or Tank Davis, I’ll do it at 135.  If not, I’m looking to go to 140 and would like to fight Teofimo Lopez.”

In addition to Stevenson and Davis at lightweight and Lopez at junior welterweight, The Technician is eyeing the winner of the WBC junior welterweight title bout on December 9th between champion Regis Prograis and former undisputed lightweight king Devin Haney.

“I would 100% be interested in the winner of Prograis vs. Haney, but if Haney wins, I know Devin doesn’t want to fight me,” laments Ortiz.  “Every time I’m in Las Vegas, I go to the Top Rank gym, and every time I mention it to his people, they tell me that it’s not going to happen.  He won’t take the fight.”

Haney aside, there are many options available for Ortiz in the future.  In the meantime, he will watch tonight’s fight intently and see how things shake out.

“I’m out here with team de los Santos.  My uncle is working the corner, so I’m here to support my fellow Dominican,” says Ortiz. “I think de los Santos’ chances are very good.  I think that he can live up to the moment and surprise Shakur.”

If that doesn’t happen, however, Ortiz will be ringside, willing and able to challenge Stevenson.

MASHANTUCKET, CT – CES MMA returns to the "Wonder Of It All," Foxwoods Resort Casino, on October 20 with one of the biggest fight cards in New England history.

Tickets are now on sale for CES MMA 75 at Ticketmaster.com and CESfights.com ($160, $130, $80 and $60). A portion of the night’s proceeds will benefit cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston in honor of JoAnne Sullivan, mother of CES matchmaker Patrick Sullivan.

The main event features 13-time UFC veteran Charles Rosa in a lightweight battle against "The Junkyard Dog," Jonathan Gary.

Going by the moniker "Boston Strong," this is Rosa's return to the New England area and his first bout in the CES MMA cage since getting called up to the UFC.  The Peabody native was an amateur standout, compiling a record of 11-2 before turning pro, where he won his first 9 bouts, 5 of them with CES MMA.  In Gary, Rosa faces a 28-fight veteran looking to score the biggest win of his career.

A vacant world title will be up for grabs when "Shameless" Don Shainis battles Regivaldo Carvalho for the CES MMA featherweight World Championship.

Shainis is a UFC and Bellator veteran fighting out of Easton, MA who is looking for a second title after winning the Fighting Alliance Championship in 2022.  In Carvalho, he faces a tough Brazilian out of Glover Texeira's Texeira MMA & Fitness camp.

The absolutely stacked card also includes former CES champion Nate "The Snake" Andrews against Ali "V.I.P." Zebian in a welterweight clash, and Eric "Zebrinha" Spicely versus Justin "The Fort" Sumter in a light heavyweight showdown.

Andrews, the East Providence, RI native, began his pro career with CES MMA, amassing an impressive 14-1 record that culminated with a CES lightweight championship.  ‘The Snake’ returns to CES MMA to face a formidable foe in Zebian, a fellow Bellator and PFL veteran out of Springfield, MA.

Spicely was a perfect 8-0 in the CES MMA cage before joining the cast of the Ultimate Fighter 23 in 2016.  ‘Zebrinha’ looks to keep his undefeated CES record intact when he faces Milford, CT’s Sumter, a skilled martial artist who was featured in Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018 and 2019.

Several other matchups will be announced in the coming weeks.  Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets early, as this event is expected to quickly sellout.
