A Message from the President

 2.jpg

Friends, Family, Fans:
I hope everyone is braving the final stage of winter!  Here at CES things are really heating up as we get ready for the big boxing card at Twin River Casino on March 15th when "The Pride of Providence" Peter Manfredo Jr. (38-7, 20 KO) takes on Walter Wright (14-3, 7 KO). Both fighters were contestants on the hit boxing reality show "The Contender" and this main event will live up to AND exceed expectations!  I hope to see all of you there!

Much Respect,
Jimmy
Meet the Opponent

Walter Wright (14-3, 7 KOs), a Seattle, Wash., native and former quarterfinalist in Season 2 of The Contender, hasn't fought since a six-round unanimous-decision win over Joshua Snyder in 2010, but he's remained active throughout his layoff, most notably as a training partner for James Kirkland during his preparation for bouts against Alfredo Angulo and Carlos Molina, which were held in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Wright had also been preparing for his own comeback in June against Omar Henry, but that fight fell through at the last minute.

In 2006, Wright won his opening bout on Season 2 of The Contender in convincing fashion, beating Andre Eason 50-44 on all three scorecards before losing in the quarterfinals to future world champion Cornelius Bundrage. Later that year, Wright returned for the Season 2 finale at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and defeated fellow castmateVinroy Barrett by fourth-round knockout. Proving his success under the bright lights was no fluke, Wright faced off against then-unbeaten junior middleweight Dan Wallace in January of 2007 on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights and scored a knockout win in the eighth and final round.

Dieting with The Boss
Benny Costantino (7-2, 4 KO) breaks down all the diet myths that won't die!
1) Carbs do not make you fat - extra calories do.
2) Ab exercises do not trim your waisteline
3) Many smaller meals will not speed up metabolism
4) Protein shakes do not make bigger muscles
5) Want bigger muscles? Exercise less, but harder

Check out the Boss on March 15th when he returns to the ring!
From the MMA Division
Fights are being announced for CES MMA's next fight card on April 12th at Twin River Casino.

That night you can see CES champion John "Doomsday" Howard as well as a special rematch between Todd "The Hulk" Chattelle and Dennis Olson, on a night when both fighters will celebrate their 20th professional bout!  While these may be some of the bigger names on the card, it's the match up of Dinis Paiva Jr. and undefeated Kin Moy that seems to be grabbing the headlines!

This past week, the fighters took to social media to announce their feelings on this upcoming fight:
Dinis Paiva: "Looking forward to the fight. Kin is a warrior and an all-around humble guy. Let's give the fans a hell of a show! I consider it an honor to be with you in that cage doing what we do best. Let's give the MMA world something to see!"
Kin Moy: "Dinis, we had to do a lot of thinking when we decided whether I was ready to step up to this level of competition. I'll be training harder than ever and I know that you always bring it. People will NOT forget this fight!"

Halle Berry happy to be back for 'X-Men' sequel

Last week, director Bryan Singer hinted that Halle Berry could reprise her role as Storm in his upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and the Oscar-winning actress has since confirmed the news to CNN.

"I'm going to be there. I don't know how [much] of the old cast will be there, but I think we're pretty official," Berry said Saturday.

"I loved her and the people love Storm ... so I'm happy to come back," she continued. "And I love working with Hugh Jackman [who plays Wolverine]. Bryan Singer is back directing ... so it'll be good. Ian McKellen is back and Patrick Stewart is back, so it's good.

SEATTLE NATIVE WALTER Wright, a quarterfinalist on Season 2 of The Contender reality series, will face fellow Contender alum and Rhode Island native Peter Manfredo Jr. on March 15th at Twin River Casino.
Wright answers the call; will face Manfredo Jr. March 15th

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 4th, 2013) - As he continues to rewrite his future in professional boxing, Peter Manfredo Jr. must first revisit his storied past, reliving his glory days as a fan-favorite on the hit reality television series The Contender.

With Joey Spina unable to fight due to an injury, thus squashing what was shaping up to be a highly-anticipated rematch between two of Rhode Island's most beloved fighters, Manfredo Jr. (38-7, 20 KOs) will now face fellow Contender alum Walter Wright (14-3, 7 KOs) in the 10-round main event of "Unfinished Business" Friday, March 15th, 2013 at the Twin River Event Center, presented by Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Entertainment & Sports.

"I like Walter from The Contender Season 2, and I'm also glad he's stepping up on just two weeks' notice," said Manfredo Jr., who rose to fame in 2005 when he reached the finals of the show's inaugural season. "That's why he's a true contender.

"I was training and preparing for Joey Spina, so now I have to get mentally ready for a whole different fight and fighter, but, at the end of the day, the fans will see a great fight."

Wright, a Seattle, Wash., native and former quarterfinalist in Season 2 ofThe Contender, hasn't fought since a six-round unanimous-decision win over Joshua Snyder in 2010, but he's remained active throughout his layoff, most notably as a training partner for James Kirkland during Kirkland's preparation for bouts against Alfredo Angulo and Carlos Molina, which were held in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Wright had also been preparing for his own comeback in June against Omar Henry, but that fight fell through at the last minute.

"I'm even more excited about this bout than I was for the potential Joey Spina-Peter Manfredo rematch," Burchfield said. "The Contender has thrilled boxing fans for years with its candid, in-depth look at the sport of boxing, and its showcasing of great, young talent, and both Peter and Walter are two of the brightest, most successful stars to emerge from the fray.

"Because of their determination and perseverance, they've succeeded where other Contender alums have failed, and they're both as hungry as ever to make another run at a world title, so it's only fitting they meet face-to-face in front of what will be a sold-out crowd at the beautiful Twin River Casino on March 15th."

In 2006, Wright won his opening bout on Season 2 of The Contender in convincing fashion, beating Andre Eason 50-44 on all three scorecards before losing in the quarterfinals to future world champion Cornelius Bundrage. Later that year, Wright returned for the Season 2 finale at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and defeated fellow castmate Vinroy Barrett by fourth-round knockout. Proving his success under the bright lights was no fluke, Wright faced off against then-unbeaten junior middleweight Dan Wallace in January of 2007 on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights and scored a knockout win in the eighth and final round.

For Manfredo Jr., "The Pride Of Providence," this is the second fight of his much-heralded comeback, which began in November with a unanimous-decision win over Rayco Saunders at Twin River. Tickets for the event are $40.00, $60.00, $100.00 and $150.00 (VIP) and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254, online at www.shop.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Players Club booth at Twin River, or through any TicketMaster location. Doors open 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7.

The undercard of "Unfinished Business" features an array of intriguing regional showdowns, starting with an intra-city battle between Joey Gardner (10-5-1, 1 KO) and Reynaldo Rodriguez (6-5-1, 3 KOs) of Woonsocket, R.I. The former training partners will go toe-to-toe in a six-round super middleweight special attraction.

Also on the undercard, Boston middleweight Julio Garcia (6-3, 3 KOs) - trained by former heavyweight world champion John Ruiz - will faceThomas Falowo (8-1, 6 KOs) of Pawtucket, R.I., in a six-round bout while light heavyweight Kevin Cobbs (6-1, 2 KOs) of Burlington, Vt., who is looking to bounce back from his first career loss in November, will face hard-htting Paul Gonsalves (4-2, 3 KOs) of Harwich, Mass., in a four-round bout.

Warwick, R.I., super middleweight Benny Costantino (7-2, 4 KOs) is also back in action and looking to bounce back from his loss in July as he faces Quincy, Mass., veteran Emmanuel Medina (2-3-1, 2 KOs), who appeared in a nationally-televised bout on ESPN2 in January. Unbeaten, 19-year-old Polish welterweight Patryk Szymanski (5-0, 2 KOs), fighting out of North Bergen, N.J., will make a special appearance in a six-round bout against Antonio Chaves Fernandes (2-8-1) of Brockton, Mass. Jesse Barboza (5-1-1, 3 KOs), a Barnstable, Mass., heavyweight, will return to Twin River for the first time since 2010 when he faces Jeramiah Witherspoon (2-2-1, 1 KO) of Altoona, Pa., in a four-round bout, while female bantamweight Noemi Bosques (1-0), a St. Petersburg, Fla., native who now trains in Providence, will face Queens native Vanessa Greco (1-2-1) in a four-round bout. All bouts are subject to change.

(Twin River has waived its 18+ rule for "Unfinished Business." Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must enter through the West entrance.)

Still undefeated

Williams, Vincent keep their perfect records intact on undercard of ESPN showcase

LEDYARD, Conn. (March 1st, 2013) – Shelito Vincent and Jimmy Williams made easy work of their opponents Friday, winning every round of their respective bouts to earn shutout victories at Foxwoods Resort Casino’s MGM Grand Theater.

Vincent (8-0) and Williams (2-0, 1 KO), both part of Jimmy Burchfield’s stable at Classic Entertainment & Sports, starred on the undercard of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and rap mogul 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions.

Vincent, a New London, Conn., native, followed up her impressive win over Nydia Feliciano in January with another dominant performance Friday, out-boxing the scrappy Mikayla Nebel (0-4) of Ohio to earn a 40-36, 40-36, 40-36 decision in the female bantamweight division. Williams, a New Jersey native who now lives and trains in New Haven, Conn., followed suit with an equally-impressive, 40-36, 40-36, 40-36 win over Georgia’s Raynard Younger in a four-round welterweight bout. For Williams, it was his second nationally-televised bout; his debut win over Noel Garcia aired live on NBC Sports Network’s Fight Night series.

Russia’s Evgeny Gradovich (16-0) upset Australia’s Billy Dibb (35-2) in the main event by split decision, 114-112, 112-114, 114-112, to win Dibb’s International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight title while Cleveland’s Willie Nelson (20-1-1, 12 KOs) destroyed Michael Medina (26-4-2) via first-round knockout to retain his North American Boxing Federation (NABF) light middleweight title in the scheduled 10-round co-feature. Nelson sent Medina to the canvas twice and finished him for good at the 2-minute mark.

Also on the undercard, light welterweight Luis Olivares (1-0, 1 KO) debuted with a first-round knockout win over Rafael Munoz (1-2) at the 1:38 mark while New England’s Luis Rosa (13-0) and Ryan Kielczewski (16-0) each kept their perfect records intact with eight-round, unanimous-decision wins. New Haven’s Rosa stood toe-to-toe with Jhovany Collado (4-7-2) of Queens and earned an 80-71, 80-71, 80-71 win in the super bantamweight division while the 23-year-old Kielczewski, a Quincy, Mass., super featherweight, dominated Texas’ Gil Garcia (5-4-1), 80-72, 80-72, 79-73.

Their time to shine

CES photos by Kelly MacDonald
CONNECTICUT'S JIMMY WILLIAMS (left) and Shelito Vincent will be in action tonight at Foxwoods Resort Casino's MGM Grand Theater as part of ESPN2's national telecast of Friday Night Fights.

CES' Williams, Vincent return on undercard of tonight's ESPN telecast at Foxwoods

LEDYARD, Conn. (March 1st, 2013) - Professional boxing and hip-hop will collide in front of a worldwide audience Friday night at Foxwoods Resort Casino with two of Connecticut's rising stars looking to steal the show.

Undefeated New London female bantamweight Shelito Vincent (7-0) and New Haven welterweight Jimmy Williams (1-0, 1 KO) will be featured tonight on the undercard of ESPN's Friday Night Fights at the MGM Grand Theater, co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and rap mogul 50 Cent's SMS Promotions. The show will also feature a live performance by the Queens native 50 Cent, a three-time American Music Award winner and platinum-selling artist.

Vincent, who now lives and trains in Providence, R.I., is aiming for her second win of 2013 when she faces Mikayla Nebel (0-3) in a six-round bout. For Nebel, an Ohio native, this is another in a long line of tough fights since she turned pro last March; she's gone the distance withNydia Feliciano, whom Vincent beat in January, New York fan-favoriteHeather Hardy and Jennifer Santiago. Her previous three opponents have a combined record of 11-4-3.

"She's a nice little fighter," said Vincent, who out-worked Feliciano in a unanimous-decision win in January for her seventh win. "She's got a nice right hand, but I move my head, and a lot of other girls don't, so I'm not worried about it."

Vincent is dedicating the fight to her friend and fellow fighter Noemi Bosques, whose mother is in critical condition due to illness. Bosques is set to face New York's Vanessa Greco in a four-round bantamweight bout March 15th in Providence.

"I'm taking it out on her," Vincent said of Nebel. "I feel bad for her."

After debuting in front of a national-television audience on NBC Sports Network's Fight Night with a fourth-round knockout win over Noel Garcia on Jan. 19, Williams - a former college football player at Southern Connecticut State University - will return tonight against 26-year-old Ray Younger (0-1) of Georgia.

"I've been training hard, so I expect to win," Williams said. "I feel good. This is the second step in becoming a champion."

The main event of Friday's card features the 12-round International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight title bout between Australian champion Billy Dib (35-1, 21 KOs) and Russian challenger Evgeny Gradovich (15-0, 8 KOs). Cleveland's Willie Nelson (19-1-1, 11 KOs) will defend his North American Boxing Federation (NABF) light middleweight title against Michael Medina (26-3-2, 19 KOs) of Los Angeles in the 10-round co-feature. The live broadcast on ESPN2 begins at 9 p.m. ET.

Tickets priced at $40.00, $75.00, $100.00 and $200.00 can be purchased online at www.foxwoods.com, at the MGM Grand Theater box office or by calling 800-200-2282.
