–  Cissy Houston has a few words, and a few more, for Bobby Brown.

In "Remembering Whitney," the mother of the late Whitney Houston writes that from the start she had doubted whether Brown was right for her daughter. And she thinks that Whitney might not have ended up so "deep" into drugs had they not stayed together.

"I do believe her life would have turned out differently," Houston writes. "It would have been easier for her to get sober and stay sober. Instead she was with someone who, like her, wanted to party. To me, he never seemed to be a help to her in the way she needed."

"Remembering Whitney" came out Tuesday, two weeks short of the first anniversary of Houston's death. She drowned in a hotel bathtub in Beverly Hills, Calif., at age 48. Authorities said her death was complicated by cocaine use and heart disease.

Police in South Florida say rapper Rick Ross crashed his Rolls Royce into a building after hearing shots fired nearby.

Fort Lauderdale police say Ross and his companion, fashion designer Shateria L. Moragne-el, reported hearing multiple shots fired in their direction at around 5:00 a.m. Monday. Police say Ross lost control of the silver Rolls and crashed into an apartment building.

Neither Ross nor his passenger was injured and police say it did not appear that any bullets struck the Rolls.

The police report uses Ross's real name, William L. Roberts. Ross turned 37 years old Monday.

Authorities say unknown suspects fled before police arrived. TV news footage showed a bullet hole in the window of a nearby restaurant.

A Ross spokesman didn't respond to email seeking comment

Fort Lauderdale TV station Channel 7 News questions how the barrage of bullets hit buildings in the area, but not one hit Ross' car. They say it may have been a hoax to stir up publicity for the rapper.

Bobby Brown unhappy about slams in book by Whitney’s mom

   C issy Houston’s new memoir, “Remembering Whitney”is stirring some controversy. While the senior Houston doesn’t go so far as to blame her late daughter’s drug addiction on ex-husband Bobby Brown, I’ve learned he is not happy with how his former mother-in-law writes about him.

   In the book, Houston actually disses Brown for what she perceived as his lack of true concern for Whitney. “He didn’t help her, that’s for damn sure,” Houston writes, making clear she believed the superstar married beneath her and “I tried to tell Nippy [Cissy’s nickname for Whitney] that I didn’t think Bobby was good for her.”

   A close business associate of Brown says the singer “knows where he stands with Cissy and her relatively low opinion of him doesn’t come as any surprise, but he doesn’t like the overall tone of the book, which he thinks is Cissy’s way of trying to assuage her conscience about not doing enough to prevent Whitney’s death.

WASHINGTON - It was a celebratory atmosphere at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Sunday as his son helped lay a wreath to honor the legendary civil rights leader's 83rd birthday.

Martin Luther King III helped lay a wreath at the base of the 32-foot tall statue that dawns the likeness of his father, in a pensive glance across the Tidal Basin, arms folded in his suit, a rolled up sheet of paper in his left hand.

WASHINGTON — Monday's inaugural may be President Barack Obama's big day, but Martin Luther King Jr. will loom large over the festivities.

A quirk in the calendar pushed Obama's public swearing-in onto the national holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader, and inaugural planners have taken pains to acknowledge that fact. Going into his second term, Obama seems to have put King at the front of his mind, too.
