RISING MIDDLEWEIGHT PROSPECT Thomas Falowo of Pawtucket, R.I., will face his toughest test to date on Saturday, July 27th, 2013 in the eight-round co-feature of Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Entertainment & Sports' professional boxing event, "Game On," when he faces the dangerous Chris Chatman of Jersey City, N.J., live from Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I.

Falowo's showdown against hard-hitting Chatman highlights spectacular July 27th undercard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (July 15th, 2013) -- Leave it to promoter Jimmy Burchfield to produce the brightest post-Independence Day fireworks display in New England.

In addition to the highly-anticipated showdown between Rich Gingras(13-3, 8 KOs) and Vladine Biosse (15-2-1, 7 KOs) for the New England Super Middleweight Title, Classic Entertainment & Sports has put together an epic undercard for its Saturday, July 27th, 2013 boxing event at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I.

As an added bonus, Twin River and CES have teamed up to offer fight fans an exclusive rewards offer with their ticket purchase (see below for details), and CES has upped the ante for VIP customers by including an additional $25 gift certificate to either Meritage of Chardonnay's restaurant in Rhode Island with the purchase of every $126 Jimmy's Club VIP ticket.

Popular middleweight prospect Thomas Falowo (10-1, 7 KOs) of Pawtucket, R.I., could steal the show in the eight-round co-feature when he faces hard-hitting southpaw Chris Chatman (10-2-1, 5 KOs) of Jersey City, N.J. The undercard of "Game On," appropriately titled with Twin River celebrating its recent launch of table games, also features the professional debut of highly-touted female bantamweight Marcia Agripino and the return of Woonsocket, R.I., fan-favorite Joe Gardner(11-6-1, 1 KO) in a six-round super middleweight bout.

Chatman is no stranger to Rhode Island; he fought unbeaten light middleweight prospect and soon-to-be world-title challenger Demetrius Andrade of Providence in a memorable, six-round bout at Twin River in 2009. Andrade won the fight by unanimous decision, but many ringside observers -- and Chatman himself -- felt Chatman won the fight. The diminutive, 5-foot-8 southpaw returned to Twin River two years later and this time left no doubt about the outcome, stopping Rahman Yusubov in five rounds.

In between those Twin River bouts, Chatman also racked up impressive wins over then-unbeaten prospects Alberto Herrera and Lester Gonzalez and also fought to a draw against Charles Hatley, who was 14-0 at the time.

Falowo has been on quite a role himself; since suffering his first and only loss in May of 2012, he's won four consecutive bouts -- three by knockout -- and, in the process, has cleaned house against the region's top middleweight prospects with wins over Julio Garcia of Boston, Mass., and Tylon Burris of Hartford, Conn.

"This could be a main event on any other card," Burchfield said. "I applaud both fighters for stepping to the table and challenging themselves. These are the kind of fights that matter, and these are the kind of fights fight fans want to see."

Gardner will also face a tall task on July 27th as he looks to rebound from his close, split-decision loss to Gingras in May when he takes on Queens, N.Y., veteran Alexander Mancera (8-5-1, 5 KOs). Gardner had put together a solid win streak with victories over Phil Burnette,Alex Amparo and Reynaldo Rodriguez prior to the fight against Gingras, while Mancera will end his nine-month layoff in the same venue where he lost fought in a knockout loss to Kevin Cobbs in October.

Agripino, a Groton, Conn., native, will debut against Brooklyn'sVanessa Greco (1-2-3) and Providence super middleweight KJ Harrison-Lombardi (1-0) will make his Twin River debut against Boston's Maceo Crowder (2-1) in a four-round bout. "Game On" will also feature the professional debut of Hartford light middleweight"Jabbin'" Joe Wilson Jr., who will battle Saul Almeida (0-2) of Framingham, Mass., in a four-round bout. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

The main event between Providence's Biosse (15-2-1, 7 KOs) and Pawtucket's Gingras (13-3, 8 KOs) will be for Biosse's New England Super Middleweight Title, which he has successfully defended three times since winning it in 2010. Gingras, a former contestant on the reality television series The Contender, is aiming for his third consecutive win and possibly his fourth in his last five fights since returning from a three-year layoff in 2012.

Tickets for "Game On" are $41.00, $76.00, and $126.00 (VIP) and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254, online at www.shop.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Players Club booth at Twin River, or through any TicketMaster location. Doors open 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7.

(Twin River has waived its 18+ rule for "Game On." Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must enter through the West entrance.)

IT'S NOW OR NEVER

FOR BATTLE-TESTED SAUL ROMAN

UNCASVILLE, CT - Mexican ring veteran Saul Roman has been in the boxing business for a long time. The grizzled pro they call "La Fiera", the "Wild Beast", began boxing thirteen years ago, and has compiled a proven record of 37-9, with 31 KOs. Roman has fought everyone, and pretty much seen it all in the sport. Although he's gotten close, Saul has yet to earn a shot at a world title. However, on August 3rd, he gets his chance to change all that. The timing couldn't be better because for Saul Roman it's now or never.

In perhaps his final opportunity to make an impression on the boxing world, Roman faces rising middleweight star Curtis "Showtime" Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, in the nationally televised main event on NBC Sports Network's Fight Night boxing series. The scheduled 10-rounder is the key bout on a big tripleheader which also features cruiserweights Eddie Chambers and Thabiso Mchunu, and heavyweights Tomasz Adamek and Tony Grano, in separate 10-round fights from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. The broadcast begins at 10:30 PM.

Born in Culiacan, Mexico, the same city that produced legend Julio Cesar Chavez, Saul Roman has battled top talent like Sergio Martinez, Vanes Martirosyan, Gabriel Rosado, Yuri Foreman, Kassim Ouma, Jesus Soto Karass, and was the first to defeat Marco Antonio Rubio.

The seasoned 33 year old now sets his sights on Curtis Stevens, one of the most promising young guns in the sport. A win over the power-punching New Yorker could vault Roman into the mix of the suddenly star-studded 160-pound division, and finally bring him the opportunity he's been chasing all these years.

With dangerous power of his own, and a seasoned toughness that Stevens has never quite experienced before, Roman has what it takes to give Curtis the fight of his life. The Mexican knows that he must win to stay relevant, and that failure to do so means he may never get this close again.

In other words, Roman's back is against the wall.

With his future at stake on August 3rd, "The Wild Beast" is ready to fight like a caged animal, which makes this experienced Mexican a very real and dangerous foe for the promising Stevens.

On August 3rd, it's now or never. And "La Fiera" is on the prowl.

FIGHT INFO: August 3rd "Three To See" card at Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT.  In the main event Curtis Stevens and Saul Roman will clash for 10-rounds in a  middleweight war. Thomas Hearns wants to make Detroit a vibrant boxing town again. (Todd McInturf/Detroit News)

Detroit— Emanuel Steward, Detroit’s godfather of boxing, would have turned 69 last Sunday.

Since his death last fall, boxing remains alive in Detroit, but the Kronk Boxing brand has been in hibernation. Boxers have been displaced. Some quit while others work out with former Kronk trainers in dingy gyms and unfamiliar studios.

Former boxing champion Thomas Hearns wants that to change.

“I made boxing famous here in Detroit, me and Emanuel together,” Hearns said. “In order to bring boxing back again we need somebody consistently doing fights. If you do, the people will support it if you give them what they want to see. Nobody wants any jive or junk. As long as you give them some great fights, some good talent and make it worth their while to spend money.

CURTIS STEVENS AIMS FOR

ANOTHER KNOCKOUT AGAINST ROMAN

667.jpg

UNCASVILLE, CT - The last time middleweight Curtis "Showtime" Stevens was in the ring, something happened that he didn't plan on. The hard-punching boxer from Brooklyn, NY was extended for the full 8-round limit. Although he won a unanimous decision that day, the result didn't sit well with the hot prospect. If it was up to Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, every single one of his fights would end in a KO.

"I don't get paid overtime," Stevens recently said, summing up his boxing philosophy.

The exciting New Yorker gets a chance to register another knockout when appears in the 10-round main event on August 3rd at the Mohegan Sun, in Uncasville, CT. Stevens faces veteran Saul Roman, 37-9, 31 KOs, in the nationally televised contest.

The fight is the highlight bout of a triple header card on the next edition of Fight Night. The other televised bouts feature heavyweight Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs, and Tony Grano, 20-3-1, 16 KOs, in a 10-round heavyweight contest, and Eddie Chambers, 36-3, 18 KOs, in his first cruiserweight fight against Thabiso Mchunu,13-0, 10 KOs, also scheduled for 10 rounds.

Prior to his last bout, Stevens blasted out his previous two opponents in a single round each. However, against Roman he will find a battle-tested professional who figures to seriously test his punching power. The Mexican has been in with the best and sees Stevens as the final hurdle to the world title shot that has eluded him during his 13-year career.

With Stevens on the brink of big things in the middleweight division, he will certainly bring his "A" game into the ring against Roman. And for Stevens that means only one thing - a knockout. However if Stevens wants to add another flashy KO to his record, he's going to have to work for it against Roman.

But that's exactly what Stevens has done throughout his boxing career. His penchant for punching surfaced early in his amateur days, when he was first labeled as a dangerous knockout artist. This reputation has stuck in the professional ranks, and Stevens would like nothing more than to make another statement in the nationally televised main event.

With both fighters in hot pursuit of victory, their fight on August 3rd should prove to be an explosive encounter.
