(EW.com) -- When Quentin Tarantino's western revenge-fantasy "Django Unchained" was first announced, casting rumors pegged Will Smith as the titular slave-turned-vigilante.
But Smith, who teams with his son Jaden in this summer's sci-fi epic "After Earth," tells EW that he turned down the part because his character would've been second fiddle to the bounty hunter (played by Christoph Waltz) who teaches Django his trade.
Quentin Tarantino's 'Playboy' interview reveals who almost starred in 'Django Unchained'
"Django wasn't the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead!" says the "Men in Black" star, whose departure opened the door for Jamie Foxx to play the role

Black Ink Crew trip to Vegas? Well for one thing, Sassyreplaces her in a super-sexy Urban Ink photo shoot, and looks damn good holding her own as a model. On tonight’s episode, when Alex is a no-show in Sin City, Dutchess and Sassy both get a chance to show off their goods on the Strip, and the results are…more revealing than we’ve seen thus far. Check out pictures of the girls, covered more by their own ink than by any item of clothing, as they show off their modeling skills..

Hosted by VH1 and Monami Entertainment mogul Mona Scott-Young, the event brought out urban entertainment’s top outlets, allowing bloggers, personalities, print journalists and more to preview the show’s first episode and hear from the ladies in what became a heated post-screening Q&A.
