Tiny House Fan/Opponent! Happy New Year :)
First, thank you for submitting a survey response, coming to a community meeting, and/or signing up to receive our emails. You care! No matter if you strongly support or vehemently oppose the tinylifenhv initiative, I personally just want to say thanks for participating in your community. Civics are important, and you matter!
Update: After a rocky December, we will be submitting draft zoning text to the Board of Alders on January 23 for consideration and public hearing at the February 19th City Plan Commission meeting.
Draft Zoning Text: We took a stab at incorporating the community's ideas and feedback into a coherent zoning text and came up with this draft. Essentially, it's a floating zone that can be applied in residential areas, subject to compliance with this zone's requirements and restrictions. For example, in order to develop certain projects using this zone (rather than normal RM-2 or RS-1 zones), you have to prove that you personally (not your LLC) live in New Haven. Read the draft, feel free to redline it, or email us back with comments.
Next Steps: As we prepare to submit to the Board of Alders, we need your help with the following:
-- Remember to answer our survey if you haven't already. Send it along to friends or neighbors for them to answer as well. Try to get responses in by Jan 15.
-- Consider submitting public testimony online here.
-- Mark your calendars and come to the public hearing on February 19 at 6:00PM at 200 Orange Street.
-- AND Please please continue to advocate for more diverse and more affordable housing types in more neighborhoods in New Haven!
Thank you for helping to improve housing options in New Haven.
Warm Regards,
Katherine McComic, tinylifenhv.com
