10 October, 2018 – GUNSHOTS FIRED AT CAR IN WESTVILLE VILLAGE AS CROWDS LEAVE ROOSEVELT’S BAR
This marks the third gunfire/ shooting event in one year related to a bar in the heart of the quiet Westville Village. At 1:03 AM, Officers responded to calls of gunfire that had occurred outside Roosevelt’s Bar, 883 Whalley Avenue.
An officer had been flagged down at the corner of Fountain Street and Central Avenue by a person reporting a chaotic scene just blocks away. As he approached, the officer heard gunfire and spotted a Subaru Forester leaving the area. He pulled over the car on West Rock Avenue. The car’s windshield had been shot at.
About two hours later, an officer in Fair Haven was contacted by a man admitting he’d fired at the vehicle after its driver sped directly at him. The twenty-five year old Hamden, CT man told police he was leaving Roosevelt’s when a man pulled up to him and addressed him. He said the man drove off, made a U-turn and sped toward him. He told officers he jumped into his own car but couldn’t get it started in time to flee. He said the man struck his car and he thought the man would harm him. He said he fired at the driver, who in turn fled.
Video of the incident, viewed by the officers, generally corroborates the victim’s story. The victim has a valid pistol permit. It appears he was not the antagonist in this incident.
The case remains under investigation. An arrest has not yet been made.
On Saturday, September 22, 2018, Officers, as had become routine, were posted at Roosevelt’s bar to clear out the crowd after closing time. At 1:52 AM, those officers heard gunfire and found the victim in front of the closed business at 867 Whalley Avenue. Tomone Archie Lindsey, thirty-two, of New Haven, had been shot in the leg. He claimed to have no knowledge as to who’d shot him. A parked car was struck as well.
Though Roosevelt’s Bar often hires an Extra Duty officer on weekends, routinely, it takes many on-duty officers to clear out the area after closing.

9 October, 2018 – MAN CLAIMS SELF-DEFENSE IN STABBING. THE INJURED PERSON DISAPPEARED
At 9:36 PM, officers were dispatched to 154 Frank Street after somone reported an assault.
The arriving cops found a pool of blood on the front porch and a trail of blood leading inside to the second floor. There was more blood in a bedroom, but no one was in it.
Suspicious of the noises above, the basement tennant emerged and told the cops he’d seen two women leaving the building after hearing an argument. He said his upstairs-neighbor came outside and was bleeding from his face. He said the women cut him.
Police cought up with the victim at Yale New Haven Hospital. The sixty-six year old told the officers he was in his bedroom, when the door opened and two men entered. One had a “shiny knife”. The blade-wielding man aproached him. The victim armed himself with a screwdriver and ordered the intruder to stop.
The victim said the man kept coming and sliced his face and hand. The victim said he stabbed the intruder several times with the screwdriver. The last time, said the victim, the screwdriver remained in the man’s chest.
The victim’s wounds – though deep, were not deemed life-threatening. The intruders were not found despite frequent checks for the impaled one – male or female.
9 October, 2018 – HURLBURT STREET RESIDENCE STRUCK BY BULLETS
At 9:13 PM, the city’s ShotSpotter® system alerted to gunfire on the one-hundred block of Hurlburt Street. Officers narrowed their search to a bullet struk home at 109 Hurlburt Street. Bullet shell casings, found outside on the street and front porch, were collected and the house was searched. One of its occupants, Travis Jenkins (3-30-1975), of that address, had two outstanding warrants (larceny 6th and failing to appear in court) and was taken into custody. His custody was otherwise unrelated to this case.

BANTAMWEIGHT CONTENDER ANDRE Soukhamthath, right, will make his AXS TV debut Friday, March 13th, 2015 on the main card of "CES MMA XXVIII" when he faces New York native Brian Kelleher. Since relocating to Florida, the Rhode Island-born Soukhamthath has learned to balance life in and outside of the cage as he continues to climb to the top of his weight class.
-- Andre Soukhamthath knew relocating to Florida would be beneficial to his career. He just never knew it'd be this difficult.
Since packing up his family and moving to Boca Raton, Fla., to train with the renowned Blackzilians, the Woonsocket, R.I., native Soukhamthath (8-2, 4 KOs) has been forced to readjust his philosophies and priorities, important steps in his development as he prepares for his AXS TV debut on the main card of "CES MMA XXVIII" Friday, March 13th, 2015 at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I.
"I had a little talk with one of my coaches and he said to me, 'You know what? When you go home to fight, you've got to forget everything and just focus on the fight. Just relax. Don't leave the hotel or wherever you're staying.' He's right," Soukhamthath said.
"I'm there for business. I need to handle my business and then come home. I try to see everybody when I'm up here, but this is my career. I really need to handle my business now."
Soukhamthath will face New York native and Bombsquad vet Brian Kelleher (11-7, 5 KOs) in a three-round bantamweight bout, a fight originally scheduled for January until Soukhamthath wound up with the flu during his extended stay in Rhode Island. It's all part of the learning process. Instead of heading north a week earlier, Soukhamthath will land in the Ocean State the night before the weigh-in to avoid any issues with the climate change.
"It was a sign that it wasn't my time to fight," he said. "This time, it definitely is."
The opportunity to fight in front of a worldwide audience is long overdue for the hard-working Soukhamthath, who won seven consecutive fights under CES MMA's guidance before a narrow defeat to Kin Moy in January of 2014. His return to form in a submission win over Thomas English in October coincided with CES MMA's budding relationship with AXS TV; with three more nationally-televised events scheduled for Twin River in 2015, Soukhamthath could get more opportunities to broaden his horizons in front of a much larger audience.
"I've waited a long time for this," he said. "I think it'll bring out the best in me. This is a good opportunity to expose myself and gain some new fans.
"A win would be big, especially a win in big fashion. Whether it's TV or not, I'm always going for the finish. I have that swag for Asian Americans and hopefully I can gain more Asian American fans throughout the nation, even fans in other countries. I just want people to see me following my dream. I'm never going to change. Hopefully, people will like me."
Kelleher could benefit from the same exposure. He's no stranger to the big stage, having fought twice for Bellator in his four-year career, and is convinced Soukhamthath has "openings I can exploit" from what little film he's watched.
"He seems fairly comfortable with his standup, but he gets into wild exchanges sometimes," Kelleher said. "I've got a feel for him, but every fight is different. I just know I can exploit his weaknesses."
"I'm just going in there and doing my thing," Soukhamthath countered. "I don't really worry about what the other guy is doing."
Kelleher last fought in November, choking out hometown favorite Mark Cherico in Pittsburgh, but the thrill of handing his opponent the first defeat of his career doesn't compare to the exposure he could gain from dethroning Soukhamthath on national television in front of a rabid crowd at Twin River.
"I'm looking for fights that will propel me to the top," he said. "I just haven't been out there that much lately. I need to step up for things to happen. This is a good start. I have some momentum now."
After being unable to compete in January, Soukhamthath also hopes momentum is still on his side. He's matured since moving to Florida, not just as a fighter, but as a professional, learning to handle the ebbs and flows of the sport and focusing on what matters most when it's time to step inside the cage.
"When I lost, I felt like it was the end of the world," Soukhamthath said, "but I train my ass off for every fight, so I know if someone beats me they must've worked hard, too. Sometimes you can't get the nod from the judges. I won't bitch and cry about it. I'm just going to move forward, tweak a few things and keep doing what I'm doing.
"I won seven fights in a row. Now I'm with the Blackzilians under their system. I feel like no one can beat me. I'm the same fighter with the same killer instinct, but I've got some new tools under my belt. I'm thinking differently as a fighter."

LINCOLN, R.I. (March 19th, 2015) -- The phone call couldn't have come at a better time for Jean Pierre Augustin, even if he wasn't quite sure it was real.
"I didn't take it seriously at first," said the Lawrence, Mass., cruiserweight boxer. "I thought it was a prank."
But this was no joke. This was the opportunity of a lifetime, a chance for the 27-year-old fighter to play a role in Bleed For This, the upcoming Chad Verdi-produced film based on the career of five-time world champion Vinny Paz.
Augustin (4-0, 2 KOs) landed the role of former world champ Gilbert Dele, whom Paz beat in 1991, and made a lasting impression on the cast and crew, specifically Verdi and Paz, who are now guiding Augustin's boxing career, which resumes Friday, April 3rd, 2015 at Twin River Casino on the undercard of "The Revival," presented by CES Boxing in association with Verdi Productions.

"This is a blessing for me," Augustin said. "There's no other way for me to describe it."
"Vinny is 100 percent committed to training JP and making him a world champion," Verdi said. "This is the main reason I agreed to become JP's manager, and working with Vinny again is an absolute joy. Both Vinny and I feel JP has what it takes to become a champion, but it's up to him to put in all the hard work and dedication needed."
That part is nothing new for Augustin, who, with few connections on the local boxing circuit, needed the help of a sponsor at the beginning of his pro career just to pay his way onto various cards in West Virginia and North Carolina, where he amassed a 4-0 record with two first-round knockouts in 2014.
But the money from fighting wasn't enough to pay the bills, so the Haitian-born Augustin found other ways to earn a living, working as a plumber, security guard and even a part-time Uber driver.
"I really didn't know where my career was going," he said. "I was basically living out of a suitcase moving from camp to camp, hustling here and there to get a job done and get some cash.
"I was pursuing a dream, but the dream really wasn't taking me anywhere."
Raised in Boston before moving to Lawrence at the age of 10, Augustin's first love was martial arts, but it wasn't "physical enough," so, on the recommendation of his sensei, he took up boxing at a local gym.
"I instantly fell in love with it," he said.
After 55 amateur fights (49 wins among them), Augustin finally turned pro in February of 2014. The struggle to land a spot on a card in New England with other promoters - "I just couldn't get a fair shake," he said - forced Augustin to remain a boxing nomad until he linked up with Verdi and Paz on the set for Bleed For This.
The rest is history. With Verdi as his manager, Paz as his trainer, and CES president Jimmy Burchfield Sr. as his promoter, Augustin now has an opportunity to build a fan base in New England and take his career to new heights. The journey begins April 3rd in a four-round bout against New Haven, Conn., vet Solomon Maye (1-4).
"Things have been unfolding quickly," said Augustin, who has been training and sparring at Balletto's Gym in Providence while also working with Rhode Island-based coach Vic Fagnant. "It's not overwhelming, but it's a lot to process.
"I'm just thankful for this opportunity."
"The Revival" features the 10-round main event between Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) female super bantamweight world championShelly Vincent (13-0, 1 KO) of Providence and three-time world-title challenger Christina Ruiz (7-7-3, 4 KOs) of San Antonio, Tex.
