Last night, I had a chance to speak with Dixwell QHouse Board of Directors Chair, Alderwoman Jeanette Morrison, who is also the Co-Chair of the #QHouse Centennial Celebration, happening, Friday, September 27th. Alder Morrison shared her vision and laid out the entire plan; #ElmCity we are in for an incredible and unforgettable experience; Taking you through 100 years of the #QHouse serving this great community.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the Dixwell #QHouse. This is a staple in my hometown City of New Haven, CT., that was developed for and by members of the black #community, 100 years ago. (I'm sure you heard of Constance Baker Motley. Yep, QHouse raised her). This community institution kept us safe, provided us with enriching programs and more. Over the course of 100 years the QHouse has transformed growing with each new facility. Our new state of the art facility has the entire #family in mind... It's a place for our elderly, adults and youth, with programs for all. www.DixwellQHouse.org
In celebration of 100 years of service to the community, the centennial celebration will kick off with a VIP Red Carpet reception, hosted by Babz Rawls Ivy who will get us all in the right mood 🍷, visual art & historic photos will entice you to enter the room, where you may even find yourself on the Wall of Fame. The gymnasium will be transformed into an amazing place taking you back in time to that suave hip Jazz era; Heavy hors d'oeuvres, desserts and cocktails 🍸 will be served. Music, dancing and honoring four distinguished community members who have made the difference in this 100 year journey.
