Dominika Stará was born on August 13, 1993, in the Slovak Republic. By the time Dominika was six years old she was already singing solos of popular children songs and eventually folk songs. It didn’t take long for her to realize that being a singer was all she wanted to do in the future. Her parents enrolled her in singing lessons and allowed her to compete in national singing competitions. After taking first place in nearly every competition, the family soon realized that they had a pop star in the making.
In 2009, Dominika beat out thousands of hopefuls and landed a spot on Czechoslovakian Superstar, which is her country’s version of American Idol. The competition was grueling for the sixteen year old, but as she began to advance in the competition, her dream of becoming a pop icon started to become a reality. Dominika survived week after week and was flattered that her fans continued to vote to keep her on the show. She outlasted the other eleven girls and was the last remaining female contestant on the show. Dominika took first place for the ladies, third overall and she never looked back.
With over 73,000 Facebook fans, Dominika has won the hearts of countless people worldwide. Dominika currently has over 20,000 followers on Twitter. In the past few months, Dominika has gained almost 80,000 listeners from all over the world, on Jango Radio. Since the show, she has been on countless TV and radio shows, acted in plays in Europe, and has even performed for the President of Slovakia. Dominika has signed a production agreement with an entertainment company, Poncini Entertainment, and has recorded and released her debut EP. Five singles, including three from her “Mixed Signals” EP, have been released thus far. Her runaway hit “Thinking Of You” earned her a nomination for Best R&B Female Single at the New England Urban Music Awards. Dominika parallels her style of music to an Ipod. “Nobody has just one style of music on their Ipod.
I listen to all kinds of music, so my album reflects that,” says Dominika.
Dominika has been very busy since she has been in the United States. In addition to her work in the recording studio, she has been working tirelessly with her dancers and her band perfecting her live show. In March 2012, Dominika performed before music, radio, and television executives to showcase her talents. Since then Dominika has begun to film her reality show, “The Making of a Stara”. In this reality show, Dominika gets advice as to how to become a star from established artists such as: Bobby Brown, Alicia Keyes, John Rich. She is currently talking with various networks that have expressed interest in picking up the show.
