Chubby Checker performs a free concert July 9, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

(EW.com) -- In the late 1950s, a young singer called Ernest Evans began going by the name of Chubby Checker, a handle bestowed in part by Dick Clark's wife (seriously!). Because it was a less vulgar time, nobody thought to warn young Chubby that his new moniker was just begging to be used as a lame double entendre (example: "Chubby Checker? I barely know 'er!").

CZAR GLAZKOV MAY BE

THE NEXT HEAVYWEIGHT GIANT DESTROYER

547.jpg
Czar Glazkov

TOTOWA, NJ (February 12, 2013) - Casual boxing fans might look at the heavyweight division today and think that to be a champion a boxer must be pushing seven feet tall. However hardcore enthusiasts understand that size isn't the only quality that matters in boxing's biggest division. In fact, many fight followers will tell you that the average-sized big men are the real killers among heavyweights.

There's an old adage of the sport that states, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall". Until recently, this saying certainly was the case. Throughout the history of boxing, some of the heavyweights with the biggest reputations were not in the same league, height-wise, as the current crop of boxing behemoths.

Ring kings like Joe Louis, Sonny Liston and Larry Holmes all barely broke the six-foot mark, while Mike Tyson, Rocky Marciano, and Joe Frazier were less than six feet tall. Evander Holyfield, always considered relatively small, ruled the heavyweight roost after moving up from the cruiserweight division. Holyfield not only gathered titles and monster paydays during the 1990s, he saved a slumping heavyweight division at a time when giants like George Foreman, Riddick Bowe and Buster Douglas roamed the earth.

Today is no different. Although the biggest-ever heavyweights in history are currently in charge of the weight class, the boxing world shouldn't look for someone bigger to defeat them. The new savior of the division just has to be better.

Kathy Duva, Main Events CEO, recalls, "When Holyfield fought Douglas, all but one boxing writer from Evander's home town picked Douglas to win the fight because he was so much bigger. As we all remember, Evander knocked the bigger man out in the third round to win the heavyweight title that night-a title which he defended successfully against many bigger men. As Evander said and went on to prove many times, 'It's not the size of the man that matters. It's the size of his heart.'"

Next week one of the emerging young lions among heavyweights, Czar Glazkov, 14-0, 10 KOs, brings his exciting, hard-punching style to the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, NY on February 23rd. Czar takes on Malik Scott, 35-0, 12 KOs, in the 10-round main event of the latest edition of FIGHT NIGHT on NBC Sports Network. The telecast begins at 10:30PM ET.

At 6' 3", Czar is a "smaller" heavyweight, compared to the dominant Klitschko brothers who currently reside at the top of the heap. However, Glazkov brings a devastating punch and a crowd-pleasing style that could make him a true star of the sport.

Of course, he'll first have to handle Scott, an undefeated Philadelphian, before moving up in the rankings, but Czar has the credentials to do it. He was an accomplished amateur who won numerous international titles before building his undefeated streak as a pro.

In his last outing, Czar halted the touted prospect Tor Hamer after just four rounds. The impressive win on national TV earned Glazkov a legion of new fans that began buzzing that he might be the one to inject new blood into the sagging heavyweight division. With a little more seasoning and a few choice opportunities, Czar very well may prove himself to be another "Giant Destroyer", just like Holyfield.

Kris Humphries is reminding the world that he is no longer on Kim Kardashian’s timetable.

The divorce drama continues between the exes, who were married for just 72 days in 2011. While Kardashian quickly moved on – she’s expecting a baby with Kanye West later this year – Humphries is in no apparent rush to end the marriage, a fact he reiterated in a court filing on Monday.

Kevin Garnett glares at his pal Blake Griffin (Getty Images)

On Sunday the Sporting News reported that the Boston Celtics had engaged in some discussions with the Los Angeles Clippers about possibly moving legendary big man Kevin Garnett to the Clips. On some levels, the rumored discussions checked off on all the boxes rumors need to. The Celtics are without Rajon Rondo for the foreseeable future, and even before Rondo’s season-ending ACL tear (and Boston’s four game winning streak following it) the team was struggling with its aging core. KG still has loads of game, All-Star level-game, and it would still find a home with a Clippers team that could still use some defensive mettle. On top of that, Garnett keeps an offseason home in Malibu.

Monday rolled around, though, and reports from both the Boston and Clipper camps poured cold water on the KG-to-LA talk; though to be fair to Sporting News reporter Sean Deveney he went out of his way to de-hype his initial report as much as possible. SB Nation’s Paul Flannery wrote on Monday morning that the C’s “had no interest,” and that “it would take a lot more than that to get KG out of Boston and that’s before anyone gets around to asking him if he wanted to waive his no-trade clause to make it happen.” Eric Bledsoe and Caron Butler were reported to be the bounty, and while we think that the Celtics (and know that Flannery) appreciates Bledsoe’s remarkable all-around game, this is still Kevin Garnett we’re talking about.

The Superdome lights went out minutes after Beyonce's performance ended. (US Presswire)

The Superdome lights went out minutes after Beyonce's performance ended. (US Presswire)

Lights out? Blame Beyonce's electrifying performance.

If naysayers still doubted Beyonce's singing talents -- even after her national anthem performance this week at a press conference -- the singer proved she is an exceptional performer at the Super Bowl halftime show.

Beyonce opened and closed her set belting songs, and in between she danced hard and heavy -- and better than most contemporary pop stars.

She set a serious tone as she emerged onstage in all black, singing lines from her R&B hitLove on Top. The stage was dark as fire and lights burst from the sides. Then she went into her hit Crazy In Love, bringing some feminine spirit to the Superdome as she and her background dancers did the singer's signature booty-shaking dance. Beyonce ripped off part of her shirt and skirt. She even blew a kiss. She was ready to rock, and she did so like a pro.

Her confidence -- and voice -- grew as she worked the stage with and without her Destiny's Child band mates during her 13-minute set, which comes days after she admitted she sang to a pre-recorded track at President Barack Obama's inauguration less than two weeks ago.

Beyonce proved not only that she can sing, but that she can also entertain on a stage as big as the Super Bowl's. The 31-year-old was far better than Madonna, who sang to a backing track last year, and miles ahead of the Black Eyed Peas' disastrous set in 2011.

Beyonce was best when she finished her set with Halo. She asked the crowd to put their hands toward her as she sang the slow groove on bended knee -- and that's when she the performance hit its high note.

While most of the debate has centered on spree shootings, Al Jazeera English takes a look at the problem of gangs and guns in America's inner cities in the third part of their three part series "Inside Story Americas: Guns In the United States."

Today's episode focuses on Baltimore, Maryland. The city, which was the backdrop for HBO's gritty series "The Wire" had 217 murders last year. 1 in 4 people live below the poverty line. Many people living in the inner city have turned to gangs and drug dealing as a means of survival, which means more gun violence, making it a dangerous place to live.

Kid Rock

Kid Rock says his new partnership with Harley-Davidson is a dream deal, and as the owner of multiple Harley bikes, he didn't feel like he was compromising his integrity or risking a backlash from fans.

The Milwaukee-based motorcycle maker is sponsoring Kid Rock's upcoming tour, named for his most recent release, "Rebel Soul."

The partnership announced Monday also includes an exclusive line of limited-edition, cobranded "Rebel Soul" merchandise featuring a line from the song: "I can't hear you over the rumble of my freedom."

Kid Rock said Tuesday the deal "just makes sense" because Harley is "something I've used that I've loved for a long time before this deal came about."

The tour begins Friday in Kansas City and will end Aug. 31 at Harley's 110th anniversary celebration in Milwaukee.
