ESPN is on the verge of adding Ray Lewis to its talent lineup.

Multiple sources told SI.com the Ravens linebacker is close to signing a multi-year contract with the network. At ESPN, Lewis is expected to have a significant role on the network's Monday Night Countdown program. As with most ESPN NFL talent, Lewis would also be featured on multiple platforms, including ESPN Radio.

No formal announcement from Lewis or the network is expected until the conclusion of the Ravens season. Lewis announced Wednesday that he planned to retire at the end of Baltimore's season. The Ravens host the Colts on Sunday in the AFC WIld Card round.

An ESPN spokesperson declined comment when contacted Thursday morning.

According to multiple sources, Lewis and his representatives from talent agency William Morris Endeavor met during the season with several of the NFL broadcast networks.

Rev. Jesse Jackson helps us keep our promise to continue covering gun violence in 2013, speaking to Cenk about efforts to keep guns out of Chicago.

“This clearly is the time for action,” Jackson says. “It’s so painful to think about those babies dying… We need a comprehensive plan here. Jobs in and guns and drugs out — instead of guns and drugs in and jobs out.”

Irving Azoff, the executive chairman of Live Nation Entertainment, left the concert-promotion giant’s board and resigned as an executive, the company said. The music-industry vet is taking with him his business managing the Eagles, Christina Aguilera and a handful of other major acts.

Azoff’s contract hadn’t been due to expire until mid-2014. Live Nation CEO  Michael Rapino’s contract, also due to expire in 2014, was recently renewed until 2017. In an SEC filing, Live Nation said that in connection with Azoff’s departure it was paying him nearly $12 million cash and would accelerate the vesting of nearly two million shares and 664,000 options

The department’s Facebook page has helped solved two cases, resulting in three arrests, in the past week.

On Monday morning at around 6:30 a.m., Coty Prentice found her car window smashed and her purse stolen while it sat in the parking lot of her work, the Dunkin Donuts on Rt. 85. Prentice, obviously upset, called the Waterford Police Department to file a report, although was skeptical it would do much good.

“Not at all,” Prentice said, when asked if she thought the police would find the people who burglarized her car. “I thought they were long gone.”

But just a few hours later, two suspects were in custody for burglarizing Prentice’s car, and the couple was found with several other stolen items as well. How were the two caught so quickly?

Back by popular demand... I dont by any means suggest that anyone try this, however the outcome from me trying it is rather hilarious. Enjoy folks :) Feel free to comment

500 Chicago Homicides in 2012

The 500th person was 40-year old Nathaniel Jackson, who was shot in the head while standing outside of a store in the city's West Side Austin neighborhood. This was a grim milestone for Chicago, as the city did not reach 500 homicides since the year 2008, which ended with 513 homicides. According to the Chicago Tribune, prior to 2008, the city had not seen the homicide rate above 500 since the year 2004. [Read More]

Tonight on AC360: War on Kwanzaa?

cnn-

Wisconsin State Senator Glenn Grothman is not backing down on his characterization of Kwanzaa. In a press release titled “Why Must We Still Hear About Kwanzaa?,” he accused “hard-core left wingers” of using the holiday, celebrated by African-Americans in late December, as a way to divide the country.

Grothman claimed “almost no black people today care about Kwanzaa,” and he directly went after the creator of the holiday, Maulana Karenga, and teachers who talk about it as “real” with their students.

Tonight we’ll ask him to respond to critics who call his statement offensive, and we’ll hear from Roland Martin who will be on after Grothman because the Senator said he did not want to appear with someone who would defend Kawanzaa. Tune in at 8 and 10 p.m. ET.

(CNN) -- Forty years after they were convicted by a jury of firebombing a grocery store in Wilmington, North Carolina, civil rights activists who became known as the "Wilmington 10" were pardoned Monday by the state's outgoing governor.

"These convictions were tainted by naked racism and represent an ugly stain on North Carolina's criminal justice system that cannot be allowed to stand any longer," said Gov. Beverly Purdue. "Justice demands that this stain finally be removed."

In 1972, nine black men and one white woman were convicted in the store firebombing in the coastal city despite their claims of innocence and their supporters' vehement argument that the defendants were victims of racially biased prosecutors.

TRINIDAD JAMES BEING SUED BY 'MARTIN'sScreen%20shot%202013-01-01%20at%205.33.42%20PM.png    CREATOR FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT?

The outrageous rumor that rapper Trinidad James was being sued by the creators of the '90s sitcom Martin began swirling on Dec. 20. The show's creator "Gerald Levin" was supposedly filing a $5 million lawsuit against James for infringing the show's pimp-tastic character Jerome Rome. One problem, IMBD lists the shows creators as Martin Lawrence, John Bowman and Topper Carew.

"Gold chains, gold rings, and rotten teeth, that’s Jerome!!" Levin was quoted saying. "…Martin created that."

The quote surfaced on a random blog. It seems people's nostalgia for Martin has gotten the better of them as a document proving that said lawsuit is actually legit has yet to surface.

A slew of celebrities recently recorded a public service announcement sponsored by the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns on the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting — but the initiative is not sitting well with everyone and some are even calling them hypocrites.

Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, Victor Cruz, Selena Gomez, as well as several other actors appeared in the PSA demanding Washington to require a criminal background check for every gun sold in America, in addition to a ban on assault weapons and tighter federal restrictions on gun trafficking.

"CLUB 64" BECOMES FIRST PRIVATE MARIJUANA CLUB OF 2013

club-64.jpg

"Club 64" may the be beginning of a new marijuana movement—at least wherever weed is legal to smoke.

News4Jax reports via CNN that a new members-only club for pot-smokers—which refers to themselves as "Club 64"—is the first of its kind to open in Colorado since the November approval of Amendment 64, which legalized possession of small amounts of marijuana for recreational use.

The club began on New Year's Eve at 4:20 p.m, appropriately. According to reports, members paid a $29 fee, which allows them to bring their own weed and smoke anywhere on the premises.

In a carefully worded statement, the advocacy director of Yes on Amendment 64 said that while Club 64 poses no risk to the community, it does put at risk the advances their cause has made.

Club owner Rob Corry spoke on the club's cause, stating, "The voters of Colorado have said we want cannabis to be legalized and we want a bunch of like-minded adults to be able to get together and exercise their constitutional rights together and that's what Club 64 embodies."

As of today, Club 64 doesn't have a permanent location and the address for the New Year's Eve celebration was distributed only to paying members.

Would you join a marijuana club if it was legal in your state? Let us know on Twitter (@VibeMagazine) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/vibe).

The Emancipation Proclamation - History Channel

The Proclamation was issued in two parts. The first part, issued on September 22, 1862, was a preliminary announcement outlining the intent of the second part, which officially went into effect 100 days later on January 1, 1863, during the second year of the Civil War. It was Abraham Lincoln's declaration that all slaves would be permanently freed in all areas of the Confederacy that had not already returned to federal control by January 1863. The ten affected states were individually named in the second part (South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina). Not included were the Union slave states of MarylandDelawareMissouri and Kentucky. Also not named was the state of Tennessee, in which a Union-controlled military government had already been set up, based in the capital, Nashville. Specific exemptions were stated for areas also under Union control on January 1, 1863, namely 48 counties that would soon become West Virginia, seven other named counties of Virginia including Berkeley and Hampshire counties which were soon added to West Virginia, New Orleans and 13 named parishes nearby.

Union-occupied areas of the Confederate states where the proclamation was put into immediate effect by local commanders included Winchester, Virginia,[48] Corinth, Mississippi,[49] the Sea Islands along the coasts of the Carolinas and Georgia,[50] Key West, Florida,[51] and Port Royal, South Carolina.[52]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emancipation_Proclamation

Real Iron Man Suit Allows Paralyzed Patients to WalkA few years ago, we heard that the military was building an exoskeleton suit, weighing roughly 48 lbs, that would help soldiers carry heavy objects for long distances. The mechanical suit is strapped on to the legs and is controlled by the arms. While it looks like the person is walking normally, the suit is actually doing allthe work.

Now comes word that the same suit is being used to help patients withspinal cord injuriesto walk again. Several patients, including Robert Woo who wasparalyzedin 2007 during a crane collapse in Manhattan, has been testing the new suit.

Los Angeles County's hospital of miracles has acquired two exoskeleton robot devices that will enable patients with lower-limb paralysis to walk again.

Rancho is the first hospital in the Western United States to acquire the ReWalks, and one of only four hospitals in the entire nation to have this technology.

One of the devices was demonstrated today by Agnes Fejerdy, who was injured seven-years ago, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. This device is going to change the lives of our patients at Rancho.

A crush of people has killed at least 61 party-goers — most of them children — following New Year’s eve celebrations in the city of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast. Officials say over 200 were injured in a stampede of people who had been watching fireworks at the African country’s sports stadium.

State broadcaster RTF 1 reported that the crush occurred when party goers were leaving Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in the country’s biggest city. Firefighter Colonel Sakho Issa told the station that many of the victims were suffocated after becoming trapped in a crush of people trying to return home.
