The City of New Haven has received approximately 9 inches of snow and current forecasts call for another 1-3 inches over the next couple of hours with snow ending sometime after 5 PM. New Haveners have stepped up by staying off the roads and abiding by the parking ban. We really appreciate everyone’s cooperation.
Our Parks and Public Works crews have been working hard all day to keep roads clear. This work will continue for many hours after the snow stops falling. To aid those efforts the parking ban remains in effect likely until tomorrow. We will keep you updated as to when it will end.
We greatly appreciate your patience.
When the snow ceases, please remember to clear your sidewalk – it’s the law.

All bus service, including CTtransit local and express and CTfastrak services, will be suspended state-wide from 2:00am Saturday, January 29, to 3:00am Sunday January 30th due to the approaching winter storm.
City Hall with a snowstorm update and an important announcement about a city-wide parking ban. Por favor espere para escuchar este mensaje en español.
The City of New Haven is expected to be impacted by a major winter storm beginning late this evening and lasting through tomorrow. Current forecasts are for 12-16 inches of snow and wind gusts in excess of 50 MPH. Please do not leave your home during the storm unless absolutely necessary – these conditions are dangerous.
Public Works crews will have 50 vehicles out clearing snow 24 hours a day. I know it can be frustrating if your road hasn’t been plowed. Please be patient – our team will be working as hard as we can to clear snow as quickly as possible.
Additionally, there will be a city-wide parking ban beginning at 10 PM tonight. That means downtown and along posted snow emergency routes there is no parking on either side of the street. Additionally, there is no parking allowed on the odd-numbered side of all other streets in the city. Don’t be the odd one out. Again, there is no parking on the odd side of the street.
Transportation Traffic, and Parking will be ticketing and towing beginning at 10 PM tonight.
If you need somewhere to park there are options. (1) Many New Haven Public School lots will be available. If you park in Public School lots, please only park where snow-parking signs indicate. (2) The New Haven Parking Authority lots and garages will be open for $3 per day. (3) Yale is opening a number of lots throughout the city. Please take some commonsense steps to be sure that you’re ready for the storm. Charge your cell phone and have fresh flashlight batteries. Power outages are a real possibility.
Finally, please clear your sidewalk when the storm passes – this is required by law. The City will be doing enforcement.

(Hartford, CT) – Attorney General William Tong praised the nomination today of Vanessa Avery to serve as United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. Vanessa Avery currently serves as the Associate Attorney General for Enforcement, Litigation and Investigations in the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the United States Senate.
“Vanessa Avery is exceptionally qualified, incredibly hardworking, and an excellent choice to serve as United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. She is universally respected by every colleague she has worked with and has deep connections across the Connecticut legal community. In our work together, Vanessa always leads with integrity and a strong commitment to justice, and she insists on accountability and respect for the rule of law. I will miss her leadership and guidance here in the Office of the Attorney General, but am so proud of this achievement and look forward to working closely with her in this new well-deserved role should she be confirmed,” said Attorney General Tong.
Prior to joining the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office, Vanessa was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office, District of Connecticut. She previously served as a Trial Attorney for the Department of Justice Civil Division in Washington, D.C. Vanessa also spent more than a decade in private law firm practice representing corporate and individual clients in business and financial litigation, at the trial and appellate court levels. Vanessa earned her law degree at the Georgetown University Law Center, after completing her undergraduate studies at Yale University. She grew up in New Haven and is a proud graduate of the New Haven Public Schools.
