In terms of speaking with team leaders, here are some ideas:
  • The Mayor is still on the ballot Tuesday, November 5 for the Working Families Party. She can still win but she needs all our help.
  • Mayor Harp is a fighter. She fought for us in Hartford for over twenty years. She championed HUSKY, our community health centers, youth programs, new schools.
  • As Mayor, Toni Harp has protected us from Trump. She even boycotted Trump when he invited her to the US Conference of Mayors, and got called out by him by name for protecting New Haven as a sanctuary city. Since then she has stood with our immigrant communities against attack.
  • Mayor Harp is the first woman Mayor and second black Mayor in New Haven's nearly 400 years of history. She took a "demotion" from Senator to Mayor because she loves the people of this city.
  • Since 2013, Mayor Harp has brought the murder rate to an historic 50 year low and the high school graduation rate to an historic 50 year high. Her focus has been on youth with numerous successful youth programs that got a shout-out from President Obama.
  • Under Mayor Harp's leadership we have seen 2,000 new units of affordable housing, the planned building of Michelle's House, the rebuilding of the Q House, new apprenticeship and training programs, and hundreds of new jobs for local New Haveners in new development.
  • We need to urge Mayor Harp to keep fighting and campaign to protect her legacy against slanderous and vicious attacks lobbied against her. Despite the false accusations and insinuations, Mayor Harp and her senior staff are a model of integrity and public service. Every dollar is carefully budgeted, and New Haven has a fiscal year surplus for the first time in years.
All my best,
Alex Taubes
