16 July, 2017 – SHOOTING INVESTIGATION – UPDATE (7-17-2017 |12:51 PM)
On Sunday evening at 9:30 PM, Officers and firefighter/ EMTs were dispatched to Bassett Street near Newhall Street regarding a reported person shot. The victim, a fourteen year old male from New Haven had been shot and was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital. As of noon today, the victim remains in critical condition.
According to Assistant Chief Achilles Generoso, at this preliminary point in the investigation, it appears the victim was the specific target of the shooter and that this was not a drive-by assault. Detectives are busy with this case. Evidence collected from the scene, including that which is ballistic, is being scrutinized by department forensic experts.
Witness reports suggest the shooter was a passenger in a white Cross-over type vehicle. Originally, the perp’s vehicle was thought to have been a Toyota sedan. The Cross-over vehicle driver is a black male. The shooter wore a white shirt, denim jean shorts, “Jordan” sneakers and a black face mask. (The shooter’s gender and race were not given).
