POLICE RAID NETS $22K & COCAINE FROM

A CONVICTED MURDERER’S HOUSE

New Haven |A morning raid by Officers from the New Haven Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit yielded greater results than originally thought.

With a warrant in hand, plain-clothed Officers hit the door at 147 Lamberton Street at about 10:30 AM. They were looking for drugs and any money garnered from the illegal operation.

Officer Vincent Ovchar authored the search and seizure warrant after he and colleagues investigated the drug house. The target of the warrant was Willie “Chill” Harris Jr (9-28-1971), of that address. His prior address was the Cheshire Correctional Facility where he served fourteen years after being convicted of murder in 1993.

Officer Ovchar had the expert assistance of Officers Jenna Davis, Mike Fumiatti and Tommy Glynn. The Unit boss, Sergeant Wayne Bullock had great praise for the Officers. “They were dedicated to this case. No one knew how much we’d get out of it but never the less, they investigated with vitality and enthusiasm”, he said.

The raid turned up $22,906.00 in cash and a hundred grams of powder and crack cocaine. The single-family home was outfitted with a camera surveillance system and a scanner dedicated to the NHPD frequency assigned for that area of the city.

After Harris’ arrest, detectives from the department’s Robbery & Burglary Unit got roped into the case. Narcotics Officers uncovered a small warehouse of potentially tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of suspect stolen electronics, power tools, beer and other bulk items. “It was as if he was operating his own Wal-Mart”, exclaimed Officer Tommy Glynn. “There were everything from packaged flat screen TVs to laundry detergent”, he said.

At this time, the house is being held while Detectives prepare the second warrant.

Harris was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics with the intent to sell within 1500’ of a school, possession of a controlled substance and operating a drug factory.
