New Haven – City officials today announced a planned two-week closure of the Grand Avenue Bridge beginning Monday, August 17th. The closure is to allow for preventative maintenance and routine repairs.

The scheduled work will consist of replacing linkages and mechanical components related to the wedge-type locking system that fixes the bridge into place, allowing for the safe crossing of vehicular traffic. City officials say these components must be replaced periodically to prevent failure, which would then require a much longer closure and resulting inconvenience.

The Grand Avenue Bridge will remain open to pedestrian traffic throughout the planned repairs, scheduled to be completed by Friday, August 28th.

The city’s Department of Transportation, Traffic, and Parking is working to coordinate traffic signals along alternate routes (map attached) and the New Haven Police Department is planning to have a uniform presence in the area to help alleviate any traffic congestion that may develop.
