MAYOR HARP: DOT COMMISSIONER REDEKER TO PRESENT PRIZE MONEY TO NEW HAVEN PROMISE
CITY HALL EVENT TUESDAY TO BENEFIT FUTURE ENGINEERS
New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp will welcome state Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner James Redeker and New Haven Promise Executive Director Patricia Melton to City Hall Tuesday morning for a ceremonial donation of prize money to New Haven Promise, to benefit Promise scholars who want to become engineers.
Last November the DOT was recognized as the 2016 America’s Transportation Awards Grand Prize winner. Along with the prestigious award a $10,000 cash prize is meant to be donated by the agency to a charity of its choice. The DOT selected New Haven Promise because of its commitment to provide New Haven students with scholarships to further their in-state, post-secondary education.
Tomorrow’s event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on floor 2 of City Hall – 165 Church Street – in New Haven.
The mission of New Haven Promise is to improve city schools and encourage economic development in New Haven by fostering a competitive workforce one college graduate at a time.
