EEE Virus in CT

11020662466?profile=original
Earlier this month the CT Dept. of Public Health announced that the (EEE) virus has been identified in mosquitos within 12 towns throughout Connecticut. The City of New Haven Health Department wants to make you aware of this finding and recommends these steps to protect you and your family:

Consider using mosquito repellent when it is necessary to be outdoors.
You can avoid mosquito bites by minimizing time outdoors at dusk and dawn.
To keep mosquitoes away from the skin wear shoes, socks, long pants, long-sleeved shirts and wear light colored tightly woven clothing.
The most effective mosquito repellents contain DEET or Picaridin.
Do not apply these repellents under clothing, to wounds or irritated skin, the hands of children, or to infants less than 2 months.

Measures to Reduce Mosquitoes Around the Home Include:
Dispose of water-holding containers, such as ceramic pots, used tires and tire swings
Be sure door and window screens are tight fitting and in good repair.
Clean clogged roof gutters
Change water in bird baths on a weekly basis
Clean and chlorinate swimming pools and cover swimming pools when not in use.
