24 August, 2015 – SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

At 10:36 PM, Officers were dispatched to 40/42 Read Street regarding a shooting.

Twenty-four year old Brittany Covington had been shot in her ankle. The injury is very minor. The victim said she was alone on her porch when she heard gunfire. She said she neither saw who had fired the shots or where they came from. She said no one was with her.

While at the scene, Officers were told a woman walked into Yale New Haven Hospital at 1450 chapel Street claiming to have been shot. Initially, Doctors didn’t think the wound was from a bullet. It was a small abrasion. Eventually they determined it was. The victim, twenty-one year old Emonie Dent said she was with Covington on the porch when she heard the gunfire. She said she felt pain in her back and went to the hospital.

A witness said she was on the porch with the two victims when she heard the shots. Others said there were as many as fifteen people on the porch when gunfire was heard. Some reported the group was all female but that men had been there earlier.

Detectives are investigating this case. No shooter description was provided.
