Community Mural Painting with International Artist

Makes the Old Strong School Building Beautiful Again

Residents of Fair Haven and other arts-minded residents of New Haven will joinPainter Emilio Herrera Corichi from Puebla, Mexico to paint a mural on the former Strong School building at 69 Grand Avenue on Saturday July 8 and Sunday July 9, from 9am to 5pm both days.

“We will make the wood panels that cover the doors and windows into a beautiful mural showing the diversity and unity of Fair Haven.  We will turn the former Strong School building into a hive of community activity again as we paint this mural together” said project co-organizer Fatima Rojas.

“Our kids will play a concrete role in bringing this art to life in our community and feel the pride of ownership every time they pass” said project co-organizer and neighborhood mom, Sarah Miller. “We believe in the power of art to unify and help drive the economic and social success of our neighborhood” she added.

For over 20 years Emilio Herrera Corichi has worked as muralist, sculptor, and portrait painter.  He specializes in community and indigenous arts, and has done previous work collaboratively with community groups to transform their visions into art. Check out his portfolio here.

The Chatham Square Neighborhood Association is an all-volunteer group of Fair Haven residents, businesses and nonprofits working to restore a sense of community and pride to our neighborhood. We are a diverse community, with historic homes and a beautiful waterfront. For more information and updates, including pictures of the mural and the painters once the mural is completed, visit:
