The
Connecticut
FBI Outreach Team, ADL, New Haven Police Department and Connecticut State Police invite
you to a very unique event designed to build and strengthen
relationships between
ethnic communities and law enforcement
.The project is intended to raise
respect and tolerance for diversity through culturaeducation and interaction with police officers
.
Local Police departments will have
officers from their department’s that area first generation US Citizen and became a police officer in the United States.Each of the officers chosen will conduct a 7
–10 minute brief presentation that covers their immigration journey and reason for their choice to become a police officer.Community, Cops & Culture is open to the public and will center on exposing cultural and ethnic youth from around Connecticut to law enforcement officials of multicultural backgrounds This event is on October 28th 2017 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pmand will feature
various cultural exercises takingplacewithin the venue
.
Food trucks will be on site for food and beverage purchases.
One highlight of the day long educational forum will be the showing of the documentary film Waking In Oak Creek The film details the tragedy of a multi murder hate crime in Wisconsin which resulted in the community uniting to combat further incidents of hate crimes. Two main characters of the documentary will be live at the conference for a Q & A segment following the film.
Their story is remarkable and proves that education on tolerance has a profound effect on reducing crimes of hate. Date:Saturday, October 28th 2017 Time:10:00 AM 3:00 PM
