We ask for your patience/understanding at this time as we respond to the new variant.

LEAP Year Event is our annual fundraiser when the community comes together to make LEAP's free programs for youth from low-income neighborhoods possible. This year our event takes place on February 24th, 2022 and we are committed to continuing this cherished event, which is why we will have both in-person and virtual options this year! To keep the tradition alive and support our local businesses, there will be a dinner option available for both in-person and virtual guests. A different notable Guest of Honor joins each dinner party, providing a special theme for each gathering. Guests of Honor are academics, authors, artists, activists, performers, elected officials, media personalities, journalists, and a range of other talented individuals who lead a conversation on a topic of their expertise.
Join us at the 27th annual LEAP Year Event on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Learn more here.

Today the city of New Haven began the process of distributing at-home rapid tests to essential staff with symptoms or COVID exposures – including teachers and other school staff ahead of tomorrow’s return to the classroom. This will help ensure essential staff can safely return to work. This initial distribution is part of 10,000 tests the city obtained in recent days.
The city has also received 9,000 tests from the State of Connecticut. Distribution of those tests will begin tomorrow. This initial tranche of tests will be distributed to non-profit service providers who work with vulnerable communities – such as the elderly and those experiencing homelessness. A large portion of these tests will also be dedicated to New Haven Public School children with symptoms or COVID exposures. NHPS will share information directly with families in the near future on this.
While we do not yet have enough rapid tests to distribute widely to the public, we expect to receive additional tests from the state, at which time we will announce additional distributions.
If you need to get tested, Wren labs is re-opening their testing site on the New Haven Green tomorrow afternoon (3-6 PM) and will continue to operate the 60 Sargent Drive location each morning (8 AM – Noon) except for Fridays. No appointments are required, and there may be wait time.
As a reminder, get vaccinated, boosted and wear your masks.
Check out the City’s Covid website at https://covid19.newhavenct.gov/ or call: 203-946-6999 for more information.

Yesterday Connecticut broke another record for daily test positive rate for COVID – nearly 15%. And hundreds more have been hospitalized this week alone. This surge is very real and very concerning.
Tomorrow night is New Year’s eve – a night in which people often gather together. I encourage you to re-think those plans. Avoiding indoor congregate spaces is crucial during this spike in cases.
Because of the surge in cases demand for testing is very high right now. The surge in demand is stressing our testing systems – which is causing long wait times.
Wren labs is still offering saliva testing, but they have suspended their operations on the New Haven Green until January 4th – saliva testing remains available at 60 Sargent Drive. They’re not currently taking appointments and wait times are extremely long. Please note that Wren will be close on December 31st and January 1st for the holiday and will reopen the Sargent drive site on January 2nd.
The State of Connecticut has procured 3M in rapid tests however, unfortunately, the shipment has been delayed. When we know more information, we will follow-up with instructions on where to obtain at-home rapid testing.
Please also continue to mask up. There is overwhelming evidence that masks help prevent the spread of COVID. There continues to be a mask mandate in New Haven for public spaces.
Finally, get vaccinated and boosted to dramatically increase your protection against the Omicron variant. It is very easy to get vaccinated in New Haven. Check out the City’s Covid website at https://covid19.newhavenct.gov/ or call: 203-946-6999 for more information.
We are facing a very challenging situation but we will get through this together. Thanks everyone
