CITY HALL BRIEFLY EVACUATED THIS AFTERNOON AFTER BOMB THREAT RECEIVED BY TELEPHONE
New Haven – City workers were evacuated from City Hall late this afternoon after a bomb threat was received by telephone. Shortly after 4:30 p.m. the police and fire departments responded to what turned out to be a false alarm.
City workers filed from offices at 165 Church Street after the building’s fire alarm system was activated; Church Street was closed between Chapel Street and Elm Street.
Following protocol and with an abundance of caution, police dogs swept the building. No evidence of a bomb was detected. The building was reopened after about an hour and 15 minutes.

CITY OFFICIALS: PORTION OF DIXWELL AVENUE TO BE CLOSED SATURDAY
COUNTER-PROTEST LEADS TO ARRESTS
New Haven |At 11:30 AM, NHPD Officers were detailed to the New Haven Green to monitor a reported demonstration by a group calling themselves “The Proud Boys”.
The group is NOT affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan or a white-supremacist movement, as was reported by some news outlets and those who represented themselves as members of the “Black Lives Matter” movement and other protest groups.
Rumors that a white-supremacist group were scheduled to rally at the NH Green prompted a rallying of counter-protesters including Black Lives Matter.

Four counter-protesters were arrested. At 1:02 PM, Keith Dramese Fair (12-16-1981), of Howard Avenue in New Haven, was issued a summons to court, charged with Disorderly Conduct and Interfering with Police. Dramise Fair was treated at the hospital for a repertory ailment – either from an officer’s OC Spray or a smoke-grenade released by a counter-protester.
As Dramese Fair was being detained, Barbra Fair (1-3-1948), of Burwell Street in New Haven, interfered with officers as she tried freeing Dramise from custody after breaking through a police line. Barbara Fair was arrested and summonsed for Interfering with Police after refusing the lawful order to stand back.
At 1:05 PM, as officers formed a line to separate the two groups, Rosanna Raybuyan (5-21-1980), of Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, was seen by officers throwing a paint-filled balloon at a NHPD Sergeant. The balloon did not strike the Sergeant but burst at his feet. During Raybuyan’s arrest, an angry mob formed around the officer handcuffing her. Additional officers responded.
David Simone
Someone from the counter-protest group began throwing smoke grenades towards the Proud Boys and Officers. David Simone (8-26-1988), of Broadway Avenue, North Borgen, New Jersey, confronted an officer and after being ordered to back up, used an amplified megaphone set to a siren noise to the face of the officer. Simone was relieved of his back-pack incident to his arrest. It contained Illegal fireworks type explosives. Simone was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with Police and the illegal possession of exploding fireworks. The explosives were examined by NHPD Bomb Squad Investigators. The materials were confiscated.
During Simone’s arrest, a knife landed on the top of the boot of an NHPD Sergeant. No one saw whose knife it was or who dropped or threw it.
Officers escorted members of The Proud Boys to their vehicles and they left the area. They did not return.
An officer was injured during the incident but that injury was NOT CAUSED by any demonstrator or counter-protester.
Neither group had a permit to use the NH Green for such activity.
Vince takes us to a proud boy meet up in Southern California in attempts to debunk the media's narrative regarding the proud boys organization and find the truth. The proud boys run by Gavin McInnes have gained a bad rep in the media and we want to find out what is the true meaning to be a proud boy.
Community Mural Painting with International Artist
Makes the Old Strong School Building Beautiful Again
Residents of Fair Haven and other arts-minded residents of New Haven will joinPainter Emilio Herrera Corichi from Puebla, Mexico to paint a mural on the former Strong School building at 69 Grand Avenue on Saturday July 8 and Sunday July 9, from 9am to 5pm both days.
“We will make the wood panels that cover the doors and windows into a beautiful mural showing the diversity and unity of Fair Haven. We will turn the former Strong School building into a hive of community activity again as we paint this mural together” said project co-organizer Fatima Rojas.
“Our kids will play a concrete role in bringing this art to life in our community and feel the pride of ownership every time they pass” said project co-organizer and neighborhood mom, Sarah Miller. “We believe in the power of art to unify and help drive the economic and social success of our neighborhood” she added.
For over 20 years Emilio Herrera Corichi has worked as muralist, sculptor, and portrait painter. He specializes in community and indigenous arts, and has done previous work collaboratively with community groups to transform their visions into art. Check out his portfolio here.
The Chatham Square Neighborhood Association is an all-volunteer group of Fair Haven residents, businesses and nonprofits working to restore a sense of community and pride to our neighborhood. We are a diverse community, with historic homes and a beautiful waterfront. For more information and updates, including pictures of the mural and the painters once the mural is completed, visit:
New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, President of African-American Mayors Association, Leads Reform of City Pension Investment Policy with Potential for Nationwide Impact
The change encourages trustees to hire “emerging managers” including minority, veteran, and women-owned firms
(New Haven, CT) Today, the City Employee Retirement Fund of New Haven (CERF) approved a measure that will dramatically increase the use of diverse asset managers. This measure allows investors to consider “emerging managers,” including minority-owned, veteran-owned and women-owned firms, bringing an essential diversity of perspective and experience to the asset management of the City of New Haven.
Emerging managers are considered investment managers with less than $3 billion of assets under management or with shorter track records, and can be considered by CERF for all asset classes. The measure instructs trustees to limit an investment allocation to no more than 20 percent of the firm’s assets under management.
“The inclusion of this emerging managers provision in our city investment policy is a tremendous step forward for New Haven,” said New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, who also serves as President of the African American Mayors Association, which represents more than 500 African American mayors throughout the country. “When our asset managers come with a successful track record from diverse backgrounds, and bring new perspectives to the work, that helps keep our investments viable and safe. This provision means we can support diverse and inclusive workforces in every sector and among every entity with which the City of New Haven does business. Research has proven that diverse asset managers perform as well, if not better, as majority firms. Our financial economy should be open for everyone and I encourage my colleagues around the country to do the same, and am committed to seeing my fellow African American mayors take up this cause in their towns.”
The Policemen & Firemen's Retirement Fund is expected to vote on the same language in July or August.
