HAMDEN | The Police Department has announced that a “Citizens’ Police Academy” class will take place, beginning March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the department’s Training Division. The academy will cover an array of topics, including patrol procedures, crime scene investigations, crime prevention, use of force, cultural awareness and hate bias. The purpose is to inform local residents and business/property owners about the functions and activities of the police, thereby building public awareness and community rapport, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release. In return, the department will benefit by becoming more aware of community concerns through participants’ interaction and input, Smith said. Participants must live or own property in town and must be at least 21 years old. Applications must be submitted to the Hamden Police Department, 2900 Dixwell Ave, Hamden, CT 06518, no later than 4 p.m. Feb. 20, The forms can be obtained online (at the Police Department web page) or at headquarters
