NEW HAVEN, SPARED STORM’S WORST ALLOWING QUICK RECOVERY, WILL CANCEL PARKING BAN 12 HOURS EARLY, AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT SCHOOLS TO REOPEN & TRASH PICKUP TO RESUME THURSDAY New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp announced this afternoon that a citywide parking ban will be lifted altogether at midnight tonight. The so-called ‘downtown’ parking ban was already rescinded this morning; unrestricted parking throughout the city will be restored at midnight tonight. Mayor Harp said the city’s accelerated plan to restore normal parking regulations this week can be attributed to lower-than-forecast snow accumulation, the city’s well-coordinated, effective response to the storm, and exceptional cooperation from city residents and businesses. New Haven Public Schools will reopen districtwide for classes as usual Thursday. School parking lots used by residents during the parking ban must be cleared of cars when the ban is lifted because the lots will be needed for faculty and staff cars tomorrow. License plates of cars parked in school lots Wednesday will be documented. Should those cars be ticketed for 11th hour parking ban violations Wednesday evening, the documentation will exempt them from penalty. The city’s Department of Public Works will resume trash and recyclables collection Thursday as well. Trash pick-up will resume on a two-day delayed schedule. On Thursday, crews will follow Tuesday routes, and on Friday they’ll follow Wednesday routes. Crews will work through the weekend and on Sunday will complete Friday pickup routes. And New Haven Fire Department officials are asking residents to assist with clearing snow from around the fire hydrant closest to their house. Firefighters will also be clearing snow from around fire hydrants over the next few days, but this is time-sensitive project.
