Classic Entertainment & Sports CEO Jimmy Burchfield Sr.
Everywhere I go, people ask me what I think about the big fight on Aug. 26thbetween Floyd Mayweather Jr., the pound-for-pound greatest boxer of our generation, and Conor McGregor, MMA's "notorious" bad boy and No. 1 draw worldwide.
From the week-long press tour, to the verbal sparring from both sides, and the social media frenzy over the past few weeks, there's no doubt Mayweather-McGregor will set records as one of the most hyped and highly-anticipated fights in decades.
For many, it's a dream matchup, the sweet science of professional boxing standing toe-to-toe with the pageantry and grittiness of mixed martial arts.
As one of the only combat sports promotions in the world to build successful programs in both boxing and mixed martial arts, we felt it was fitting to be a part of what will be an epic night for fights fans across the globe, so on Aug. 26th, we return to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., to bring you a night of a live championship boxing followed by the exclusive Pay Per View showing of Mayweather-McGregor.
This is a unique, one-of-a-kind event; nowhere else in the world on Aug. 26thcan you enjoy live boxing and Mayweather-McGregor in the same venue on the same night. Every fight fan who purchases a ticket to our live boxing event, featuring reigning World Boxing Council U.S. Welterweight Champion Jimmy Williams defending his title against Bronx, N.Y., vet Issouf Kinda at The Premier Ballroom, receives free entry into the private showing of Mayweather-Mayweather right next door at the Grand Theater.
One ticket, two great events -- it's a can't-miss opportunity for true fight fans. For just one price -- half of what it would cost to purchase this PPV event from home -- you get access to live boxing with the best talent in the northeast, the splendor of Foxwoods' vast array of gaming, four-star restaurants and exclusive retailers, capped by a front-row seat for history in the making with Mayweather-McGregor.
As both CES Boxing and Foxwoods celebrate their 25th anniversaries, it's only fitting we team up to provide all combat sports' fans exclusive access to an incredible night of entertainment and boxing.
Foxwoods is your headquarters for the fight of the decade, plus live, hard-hitting action from the region's top up-and-coming prospects, including undefeated New London, Conn., junior welterweight Cristobal "Bazooka" Marrero; Hartford, Conn., junior middleweight Jose "Rated R" Rivera; and undefeated Hartford cruiserweight "Popeye" Richard Rivera; undefeated Worcester, Mass., lightweight Jamaine Ortiz; plus the Foxwoods debut of 6-foot-4 Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano, who boasts an 11-1 with nine big wins by knockout.
This is the only place to be Aug. 26th. Twenty-five years in both the casino and combat sports business is no small feat and we plan on celebrating in style in 2017, whether it's by bringing you the best live action in boxing and mixed martial arts, or providing one-stop shopping for true fight fans who demand access to the biggest events across the world.
Tickets for this incredible night of professional boxing are moving fast, so we urge you to get yours today. Prices range from $55, which provides entry to both events, to $325, a true VIP experience with ringside access to our live championship event, plus preferred seating for Mayweather-McGregor.
The whole world will be watching Aug. 26th as boxing and MMA collide in the most talked-about event in years, but only one promotion and only one venue combines live action with spectacle that is Mayweather-McGregor. Join us Aug. 26th for an unforgettable night as we continue to celebrate and set new standards in our 25th anniversary.
Much respect,

Jimmy

WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS WELTERWEIGHT Khiary Gray, seen above right in his last 154-pound bout against reigning New England champion Greg Vendetti in June, makes his debut at 147 against New Jersey veteran Juan Rodriguez Jr. on Saturday, Sept. 16th, 2017 at Twin River Casino. The entire 12-fight card will air live on FITE Pay Per View. Gray is looking to rebound from a loss to Vendetti in June and make his presence in the welterweight division. Other bouts include Ray Oliveira Jr. battling David Wilson, plus the return of Anthony Marsella Jr. and Juiseppe Cusumano.
(Aug. 4th, 2017) -- After establishing his presence as one of the top junior middleweights in the region, Worcester, Mass., slugger Khiary Gray is ready to test his skills at 147 pounds with a major statement in his opening bout.

The hard-hitting Gray (14-3, 11 KOs) makes his welterweight debut Saturday, Sept. 16th, 2017live on FITE Pay Per View at Twin River Casino against dangerous Union City, N.J., vet Juan Rodriguez Jr. (13-4, 5 KOs) in the eight-round main event of CES Boxing's fourth installment of the 2017 Twin River Fight Series.

The Gray-Rodriguez main event headlines a stacked 12-fight card that also features a junior middleweight battle between New Bedford, Mass., vet Ray Oliveira Jr. (7-1, 1 KO) and unbeaten Meriden, Conn., native David Wilson (5-0-1, 1 KO), plus the highly-anticipated return of undefeated Providence, R.I., lightweight Anthony Marsella Jr. (5-0, 2 KOs) and 6-foot-4 Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano(11-1, 9 KOs).

Tickets are priced at $47.00, $102.00, $127.00 (VIP) and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.comwww.twinriver.com orwww.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

The entire 12-fight card also airs live in its entirety on FITE TV Pay Per View for $14.99 beginning at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.

Coming off a loss to Greg Vendetti on June 9th, the resilient Gray will now test the waters in the welterweight division, starting out strong against the veteran Rodriguez Jr., who last fought in August of 2016, dethroning 20-fight vet Alex Perez by split decision.

Rodriguez Jr. is best known for his epic July of 2015 bout against Rhode Island'sNick DeLomba in which he sent DeLomba to the canvas in the opening round before getting stopped in the fifth. Gray, despite losses in three of his last four bouts, owns a lifetime 10-2 record at Twin River and headlines for the sixth time in his fast-rising career.

While Gray-Rodriguez provides excitement and the potential for fireworks in the welterweight division, Oliveira-Wilson could steal the show as yet another tough test for both stellar junior middleweights. Coming off his first career loss in April, Oliveira Jr. jumps right back into the fire in a six-round bout against the dangerous Wilson, who battled to a draw with unbeaten Kendrick Ball Jr. in his last bout in July of 2016.

Speaking of Ball Jr. (7-0-2, 5 KOs), the 24-year-old Worcester middleweight returns for the 10th time in just 16 months on Sept. 16th when he battles Durham, N.C., vetPablo Velez Jr. (7-1-1, 5 KOs) in a six-round bout. Ball Jr.'s last four opponents boast a combined record of 16-1-3, including previously unbeaten Godson Noel, whom Ball Jr. defeated in June.

The Sept. 16th undercard also includes several intrastate rivalries and regional showdowns, among them a four-round featherweight bout between Jonathan Perez (2-1-2, 2 KOs) of Lawrence, Mass., and unbeaten Providence native Ricky Delossantos (2-0), plus a potential four-round showstopper in the welterweight division between Stoughton, Mass., native Travis Demko (4-1, 1 KO) and fellow Massachusetts native Marqus Bates (2-1, 2 KOs) of Taunton.

Super featherweight Michael Valentin (1-0, 1 KO) of Providence, who debuted with a sensational first-round knockout win in June, returns to face newcomerHenry Garcia of New Bedford in a four-round bout and Providence featherweight Phil Dudley (1-0) locks horns with Worcester's Philip Davis (0-1), also in a four-round bout. In the cruiserweight division, Worcester's Jake Paradise makes his professional debut against fellow newcomer Rafiel Nyakoko, also of Worcester, in a four-round showcase bout.

Also on the undercard, Groton, Conn., bantamweight Marcia Agripino (1-0-1) ends a four-year layoff she faces New York vet Federica Bianco (2-1, 1 KO), a full time astrophysicist and research scientist at New York University. Agripino last fought in Rhode Island in 2013, defeating Vanessa Greco in her pro debut.

Cusumano and Marsella Jr. will also be featured on the undercard in separate six-round bouts. Marsella Jr. faced his toughest test to date in June, picking himself up off the canvas in the fifth round against Texan Abraham Torres before coasting to a unanimous decision win, his fourth in a row at Twin River.

Cusamano, originally from Sicily and now living and training in Virginia, made his Rhode Island and CES Boxing debut in grand fashion in June, sending Dan Biddleto the canvas three times in the second round before referee Eddie Claudiostopped the bout with 24 seconds to go. Cusumano has now won nine consecutive bouts, seven by knockout.

Fight fans can stream the event live on their television by downloading the FITE app free from iTunes or Google Play and using the instant stream-to-TV function for full-screen viewing, or watch online from any device at www.fite.tv. This landmark event continues the year-long 25th anniversary celebrations for CES Boxing and Foxwoods, which both began operations in 1992; fittingly, both CES and Foxwoods featured the legendary "Sucra" Ray Oliveira of New Bedford, Mass., a member of the CES Ring of Honor, in its inaugural events, the beginning of a long, successful partnership between the two entities.

The tradition continues Aug. 26th as CES brings its brand of competitive, evenly-matched fights to the region's preeminent combat sports destination while offering true fight fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience featuring the pageantry and splendor of professional boxing on all levels.

"No promoter has brought more events to Foxwoods Resort Casino than CES Boxing," CES president Jimmy Burchfield Sr. said, "so it's only fitting we return as we both celebrate our 25th anniversaries.

"Where else on Aug. 26th can you witness live boxing along with one of the most talked-about Pay Per View events in combat sports history in the same venue for just one price?"

"Jimmy Burchfield has been a legend in boxing throughout New England for 25 years, so it's only fitting he deliver yet another unforgettable boxing card to Foxwoods Resort Casino as we celebrate our 25th anniversary," said Monique Sebastian, Foxwoods' vice president of entertainment and entertainment marketing. "We are proud to have had Jimmy as a partner since day one and to have hosted many of his marquee events right here at the 'Fight capital of the Northeast.'"

The Williams-Kinda 10-round headliner promises fireworks in the welterweight division as the unbeaten Williams faces his toughest test to date against the 29-year-old Kinda, a veteran of 22 professional fights and a former North American Boxing Organization (NABO) lightweight and WBC Continental Americas super lightweight title contender who boasts wins over Philadelphia vet Mike Arnaoutisand previously-unbeaten Zack Rasmey.

Williams is coming off his most impressive win to date, a dominant, 10-round unanimous decision victory over Rhode Island's Nick DeLomba in April to capture the then-vacant WBC USNBC crown. The 30-year-old Williams, a full-time truancy officer for the West Haven school department, returns to his home base at Foxwoods - where he owns a 3-0 lifetime record - for the first time since July of 2016.

The preliminary card features several Connecticut standouts, among them New London junior welterweight Cristobal Marrero (4-0, 3 KOs), and cruiserweightRichard Rivera (2-0, 2 KOs), junior middleweight Jose Rivera (3-1, 3 KOs) and junior welterweight Jonathan Figueroa (2-1, 1 KO) of Hartford.

Marrero battles Springfield, Mass., native Miguel Ortiz (2-0, 1 KO) in a six-round battle of unbeatens, a bout originally scheduled for June before Ortiz suffered a shoulder injury in training camp, while Rivera faces his toughest test to date against Auburn, Maine, vet Cristiano Pedro (1-1).

The Aug. 26th preliminary card also features the Foxwoods debut of 6-foot-4 Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano (11-1, 9 KOs), who recently returned from an eight-month layoff in June with a devastating second-round knockout win over veteran Dan Biddle, his ninth consecutive victory.

The relationship between CES and Foxwoods over the past 25 years includes some of the region's greatest fights and fight cards, a total of 30 events spanning a quarter century.

The highlights include Oliveira's thrilling majority-decision win over Vince Phillipson ESPN in 2000; Oliveira's record-setting ESPN showdown with Ben Tackie in 2001, which included 2,729 total punches, the third most punches thrown in a fight; a classic back-and-forth war between "Sandman" Scott Pemberton and Omar Sheika on ESPN in 2003; plus the WBC World Super Middleweight Championship between Eric Lucas and Rhode Island's Vinny Paz in 2002, followed two years later by Paz's historic 50th win over Tocker Pudwill.

In 2007, junior welterweight sensation Jaime Clampitt defeated female boxing pioneer Jane Couch for the vacant International Women's Boxing Federation (IWBF) world title, a card headlined by a thrilling super middleweight bout between Rhode Island icon Peter Manfredo Jr. and David Banks, also on ESPN. Three years later, CES Boxing ushered in a new decade of excellence at Foxwoods with a sold-out crowd at The Fox Theater to witness the highly-anticipated rematch between Connecticut fan-favorite Tony Grano and New Jersey heavyweight "Oak Tree" Mark Brown. Foxwoods was also the home of eight of the first 15 career bouts for former light heavyweight world champion and New Haven native Chad Dawson, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s under the guidance of Burchfield and CES Boxing.

NEW HAVEN EARNS ‘A-/STABLE’ BOND RATING FROM BOTH S&P AND FITCH AHEAD OF IMMINENT GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND SALE

rating_agencies.jpg

New Haven – Mayor Toni N. Harp and Controller Daryl Jones today announced results of a recent bond rating agency review: New Haven earned an ‘A minus’ rating with a ‘stable’ outlook from both the Standard and Poor’s and Fitch rating agencies. The bond rating review precedes an imminent General Obligation bond sale set to occur on or about August 3.

“The presence of the city's top two employers, Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital, provides stability to the economy and continues to attract development and investment from biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and life-science companies,” according to the Fitch report. “Significant new developments have contributed to the city's tax base growth and a number of projects are reportedly in the pipeline and are expected to increase employment opportunities in the city.”

“Additionally, deferred tax payments from properties receiving tax abatements are scheduled to be received in increasing amounts over the next several years,” the Fitch report added.

“These positive reports from bond rating agencies underscore the optimism about New Haven we know exists beyond the financial sector; technology companies, bioscience firms, and development interests all share a belief that New Haven is on a steady, positive trajectory,” Mayor Harp said. “I’m grateful to the city’s finance team and all managers in my administration for keeping the city’s fiscal house in order.”

“These results from S&P and Fitch will translate into lower borrowing costs this year’s sale of General Obligation bonds and those savings will directly benefit taxpayers who underwrite the city budget,” Controller Jones said. “New Haven’s financial standing is improving as a result of the sound management and strict controls that have been implemented – good news for property owners and business operators alike.”

The value of this year’s General Obligation bond sale will be just under $111 million.

NEW HAVEN MAN CHARGED WITH WEEKEND SHOOTING OF THIRTEEN YEAR OLD

New Haven | On July 22nd, at 2:57 PM, Officers rushed to the area of Shelton Avenue and Ivy Street after it was reported a person had been shot. The victim, a thirteen year old boy, had been shot in his leg. He was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, where thankfully he remained alert with a non-life threatening wound.

Detectives worked tirelessly on this case and secured a warrant for the arrest of Charles Worthington (7-3-1996), of 39 Lilac Street in New Haven.

Worthington was picked up on Tuesday morning, 25 July, at his home. He has been charged with assault in the first degree, carrying a pistol without a permit and risk of injury. He is being held on a one million dollar bond.

Assistant Chief Achilles Generoso had great praise for those that worked the case. “We had a dedicated crew of investigators on this. We reached out and received the expert assistance from State’s Attorney Pat Griffin and his team as well as the US Marshals Task Force, our Intelligence division, our Narcotics Enforcement Unit and Major Crimes Division. This was an around-the-clock operation that resulted in the speedy arrest of a man suspected to have shot a teenager”, said Generoso.

Head of Detectives, Lt. Herbie Johnson also praised SA Griffin and those involved in the case. “This was a crime solved by not only law enforcement, but by members of our community as well. We place great value on the relationships we have with folks in the neighborhoods we serve”, said Johnson. “The case’s lead investigator, Detective Dennis O’Connell and his supervisor, Sergeant Ron Perry worked this case for three days straight through”, he said. “We are grateful for the arrest made today”.

The New Haven Police department is currently investigating several shooting cases occurring over the last two weeks. Two of these investigations involve minors who have been shot - one succumbing to his injuries.

“News of this arrest underscores citywide determination to hold accountable those who perpetuate violence on New Haven streets and who blatantly disregard the welfare of others,” Mayor Toni N. Harp said. “I’m grateful to the officers and detectives of the New Haven Police Department for their thorough investigation ahead of today’s arrest, and their overall commitment to the safety of all of us in New Haven.”

Chief Anthony Campbell said yesterday; “Although we take all crimes seriously, it is particularly tragic when the youth of our city are the victims of gun violence. This is a situation which cannot and will not be tolerated. This is the time where both the New Haven Police Department and the community can utilize the relationships which have been built over the years to ensure that this type of behavior stops immediately”!

“We strive each and every day to bring justice to those in our community who’ve been wronged. Success happens through collaboration and hinges on working with our community. There is no place in New Haven for those who do not value the safety of every member of our community and the sanctity of life”.

“As a result of these recent shootings the New Haven Police Department has deployed multiple additional resources to the areas which are being affected by this violence. Although this may help reduce the probability of additional shootings, it is imperative that the community step up and work with Police to bring justice to the victims of these horrible incidents. Now is the time for the community to take charge and to join us at the NHPD in a way that it has not done before. This violence must stop immediately”.

“Any and all information can make a difference and information can be provided anonymously at 203-946-6304. We look forward to continuing to work together with this community, our community, the community that we love to ensure that everyone is safe and Justice prevails. Together we can and will make a difference”.
