Good Morning, 7 February, 2015 - HOMICIDE - UPDATE UPDATE - THE VICTIM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS MARY TOWNSEND, 48, OF DEWITT STREET IN NEW HAVEN THERE ARE NO FURTHER UPDATES AT THIS TIME. At 1:36 AM, Officers were dispatched to 66 Second Street after a caller to 911 reported hearing several gunshots. Officers located a female victim who'd been shot in her torso. The victim, Mary Townsend, 48, of Dewitt Street in New Haven, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim had been found outside at the rear of the building. Detectives have located a crime scene consisting of several bullet casings found in the snow. Detectives from the department's Bureau of Identification are working to positively identify her. That has not happened yet. Police are investigating the possibility of a connection between a vehicle pursued by Officers from the scent of the shooting to West Haven and the shooting itself. The car had been identified by a witness at the scene as being similar to one seen leaving the area after the shooting. New Haven Police had lost sight of the vehicle during the pursuit. The suspect vehicle was later located on Gretta Street in West Haven. It had crashed. It's male operator was taken to Yale - New Haven Hospital, where he is being guarded by Officers pending his being interviewed by Detectives. His injuries are considered to be serious. At this time, Detectives are in the beginning stages of their investigation. The pursuit and homicide have not been confirmed to be connected. As more is learned, it will be forwarded to you.
